I wouldn't entirely argue with these posts. Team-BHP receives 1.25 million visitors in a month. A good number of these are enthusiasts who are reading your "poetic" ownership & restoration stories. Now, even if 50 of them start looking out for Beetles (in a market that is anyways minuscule in size), the demand has effectively doubled. Just look at our Jeep section and the number of first-time Jeep owners who were inspired by our threads.

It's simple economics at play here : If demand goes up for an out-of-production item, so will its price.

In 2004 - 05 my cousin sold his beetle for about 90k then in 2005 I got him a one owner beetle 1960 year of manufacture. It was stored in a closed garage for many years since the owner was old and didnt drive anymore. It had brand new tyres. Some work was done on it but the my cousin was not an expert in these matter. he even managed to earn 5k in a advert shoot or something like that. Inspite of me telling him not to sell the car when he didnt have time to use it, he still went ahead and sold it for 85k in mid 2009. Bad decision for sure. The car was never advertised on TBHP while buying or selling.

There were couple of bay windows which were picked up very recently in Bombay - one for less than 40k which is now being painted and another one, a completely restorable 1969 Bus for believe it or not 20K. There was a convertible Super bug, sold in Bombay about 7 months back for under 5 lacs. I can go on and on...as i do have a huge repository of bugs sold in and around Bombay. Maybe the case seems to be completely different elsewhere.

I will agree with you o this completely. Banglore pays abnormally high prices for anything in the vintage and classic domain . If you have a look at the classifieds you will see that Beetles/Jawa"s/lambretta"s are priced about 50% higher for any Banglore advertisement.

I was negotiating for a BSA 350 last month and the seller wanted 2 lacs for the same , when i quoted my price he said that the "Banglore Dealer " is willing to pay 1.25 already and you are quoting 1 lac, this for a bike that had no papers or known registration. And sure enough a friend from banglore told me that the bike arrived yesterday , so he must have paid more than what i was giving.

I had picked up a beetle in 2007 for 40k and sold it on in 08, the same resides in Banglore now , sold for 2.5 lacs in EXACTLY the same condition by the dealer who bought it from me.

As for the effect that tbhp has on prices , i would say it is a temporary one as you only get a lot of "enquiries" but the real buyers only offer realistic market prices and very few of the enquirers have ready cash.

Well, I'm not karl but I would say NO. No way!

Firstly, its a Morris Minor, so no way a 1940 model (they are 100% post-war cars, came out in the late 40s) unless it was a typo.

Then it somehow doesnt seem to be an original convertible, rather a chop-top.

The front windscreen's not original, plus am sure neither are many other things as well! Not worth a second glance, regardless of the price.

The bumpers shouldn't have been painted over, IMHO! Mars the whole effect of an otherwise well-restored (seemingly) car.
