We? I like the start of the sentence. Let me take a shot, I have seen a few for sale and price being asked are 35 for unrestored and 50 for restored, lacs mind you not paise for cars considered fairly ordinary classics in the US. Even heard of a paperless junk being offerd in the teens. Just catch in known punter in your town and vola you will receive pics. Regarding any others you may be inquiring about would be as good as asking folks here if they all pay full taxes or we became a 1 st world country in a New York second

We are in warp drive, way beyond India shining when it comes to old cars as the world is coming to an end soon, Best of luck

The steering wheel does look interesting though certainly not original. Looks like it came off an American car?

Well, the car has been tastefully done up and some moolah went into it. Since experts are likely to comment on what is not original, he wants to give it only to someone who appreciates his effort.

A lot of 6 vehicles was recently offered by tender in Gujrat. Some of these vehicles are ex-Nawab of Junagadh. Crazy prices were offered, and lots of chess being played among the bidders. VCCCI thought that these cars should be handed over to them as they preserve such vehicles for India. Some bidders were careless and did not follow all the tender conditions, thus being disqualified. So they gave TV and Newspaper interviews, the game is still being played out. Meanwhile, for those who have not seen the pictures or heard of this peak Vintage and Classic event of 2013, here are some photos. The cars offered were a Dukker Fiat, Mercury, MG, Jeep, Chevy Pick-Up, and a later Willys Jeep high bonnet. These vehicles were offered on as is where is basis. Watching with interest where the drama will lead to. Maybe even to the Gujrat Parliament, or the courts.

Cheers harit

Thanks Harit for sharing, very interesting. Wanted to know how many such Mercury convertibles survive in India? I am yet to see one in the recent rallies.

John Milne had been asking about a bunch of Mercury convertibles (maybe around 10) that were shipped to India - possibly this is one of them. Over to you John.

These cars definitely came with side trims too (maybe some earlier ones came without). I've seen period pictures of my 55 car with the trims fitted.

In this car the headlights and rings appears to be the rare originals, though parking lights are from a Jeep.

You a real detective and genius, the parking lights are indeed from a jeep, thanks for correction .

Although I fully agree that KARL has a very sharp eye and is indeed an indian car encyclopedia, these type of Jeep lights are the commonest replacement park lights on Fiat 1100''s. You can easily identify by the base (housing)and also the size of the lenses.

The question is, is it one of ten, or two of ten Mercury's?
One trick used by some brokers ages ago was to tell an owner a very very high price for his car so that the owner will dream and not sell against reasonable offers. So this Mercury has been valued @ "Equivalent to a Rolls" and this apparently has been put in the local papers by one of the pioneering brokers of India. This is just one way used to confuse the institution.

Here is a page carrying advertisements from a very old magazine 1990. These were available for purchase. If only..............

re: Classic Cars available for purchase

Today's paper carried an ad for the sale of 41 vehicles from the Satara Zilla Parishad. Details on www.zpsatara.gov.in

I checked the details, hoping to discover something exotic like the Mercury discussed earlier, but no such luck. Mainly Ambys and Jeeps, Road Rollers and water tankers, and 2 Fiat Unos. The list can be seen here

http://www.zpsatara.gov.in/pdf/marat...ith%20sign.pdf

I see the Tata water tankers are MHF registered, they could be Tata MB trucks.
