The Indian made TVS 50 moped is based on the 1979-1980 Batavus Starflite VA II moped from The Netherlands.

Collaboration by TVS with a foreign moped maker is doubtful and not in my knowledge. Nowhere do their owners manuals or advertisements cite any collaboration with any foreign moped maker. Such was the trend in the 1970's and 1980's. These were either reverse engineered or else a defunct model of a foreign moped maker was zeroed upon by the Indian moped maker. Jigs, toolings and dies were available at throwaway prices which was preferred then. We find the Luna, Hero Majestic, Bajaj m50 and later m80 and maybe a few more in such categories.

Whereas, technical collaborations were entered into in respect of the Jawa Colt, Peugeot Sportif, Enfield Silver Plus and Explorer (with Zundapp), Avanti Garelli, BSA Bond, Escorts Toro Jazz and a few others (1970's to 1990's).

In mid 1970s, Atlas Cycles Ltd. based in Sonipat Haryana had launched a moped in collaboration with Solex of France. It was called Atlasolex and had the engine mounted above the front wheel. It wasn't particularly successful in the Indian market. Photos below show the then Indian President at the new factory and an advertisement of the product.
