Nice 110. This one has wheel caps from later models. I feel that wheel caps from 115 and later series look really good on fintails. In some ways they add to the character.

This car belongs to a someone i know well and is in Bandra.

VK and Gwalior tank…ever since i was a child he stayed on Malabar hill. So are you talking during his struggling period?. At that point i have heard he had a willys jeep, which he and a friend had purchased together. As of now VK only has the w123 coupe in the classic. That car now stands at the pune museum of a builder.

VK's brother used to/ still stays at Gwalior Tank and he had couple of very large garages where VK use to park his cars. A friend of mine use to stay in the same building and have seen VK coming there very often and on many occasions he use to stay there as well. Don't think those were his struggling days. I distinctly remember W107, W110, W111 amongst bunch of other Mercs which were parked there.

I think those are the original wheelcaps but with trim rings fitted (also probably original to the model).

To clear the confusion: The car in question bears registration MYO 6262, and those wheel trims were a dealer supplied period accessory.

Of course, she has a interesting bit of history as well. She used to be the pace car at the legendary Sholavaram races, held on a WWII era airstrip, in Madras-IIRC.

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the legendary MYO 6262, still bearing (mostly) original paint after all these years, and bearing those lovely wheel trims. Note the lovely 'stencilled' number font:

The reason- why the mirror placement is a tad strange:

Quote:
As the car was used initially in the United States the side rearview mirror was installed on the left side and a little further down the fender to provide for the angle of view. In 1967, even in the US, only the mirror on the passing side (overtaking side) was compulsory. I think later mirrors on both side became mandatory. In India we require one on the right side which has not been installed.
Another anecdote:
Quote:
My late elder brother, Ram, and Vicki Chandok were college mates in the 1970's in Chennai. Vicki was fully involved in motorsport, be it track or rally, and he had developed an indigenous racer built on a Herald chasis called the CAREX SPECIAL. In preperation, the Carex Special would be tested on the Sholavaram Race track with this car (yes, this beautiful Benz!) as the 'pace' car (whatever that means). This Benz has done power slides around the track, checked if the synchromesh gear box works ok , timed how long it takes to boil etc. However, couldn't check the max revs as it didn't have a rev counter. Vicki Chandok is now the President of FMSCI and may remember all this maasti.
More can be followed, here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/post-w...eos-added.html

There is a similar Fintail (), in Poona. Same colour, same type. Only thing- she's a diesel. Registered as MAF 350. Sadly rotting for many years.

I so badly want her....::Sniff::

Yesterday, I had time to kill and I decided to visit my friend's machine shop. I was chatting away with him, when along came an elderly gentleman on a Bajaj Chethak. He had a small job and while my friend was attending to it, he mentioned that he has an "Old Merc" that prolly needs welding as the exhaust pipes have rotted away. He gave his house address and requested my friend to pay him a visit so that he could take a better informed decision on the course of action.
My friend, knowing I'm a nutter for anything old, asked me if I wanted to tag along.

And thus these pics.

The moment when I went ," Bah! But this is a Honda! Was the uncle so badly mistaken?? "

Then he led us to a small garage where in was parked his 190C Fintail. The car still retains its original petrol engine.

The damaged rubber hanger of the exhaust. He needs 4 of them and also the right tail light. Any idea where to get them?

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Try using Contessa exhaust O Rings

They look similar. Best bet would be importing the original stuff online. Light would be almost impossible to find in India

Aamir Khan has been a Mercedes Benz enthusiast since his early stardom. Seen with Dev Anand in this snap.

You could try Jyoti Motors in Mumbai. They might have few in stock NOS.

You get the originals online - they call them 'donuts' . Check under Mercedes W110 Muffler on Ebay.
