I wonder if this is the same car we saw in Faster's photos (Madras registered, so could be a match).

Re: Cadillacs in India

The finest Cadillac V-16, un doubtedly in my humble opinion, Sheikh Mukhtar Sahibs Farina bodied Boattailed four door tourer, shikar car, two seater all in one ( formerly of Orchha) now in USA. I have not been able to determine the engine number. ( V-16s go by engine numbers not chassis number. The Americans use the body style number mainly, to describe the V-16's) .
As per my research, so far, only the following factory RHD cars were made.
1. Maharaja Tikari Cadillac bodied tourer
2. Nawab Bahawalpur Vanden Plas Belgium Sports Sedan
3. Maharaja Orchhas Farina bodied boattail
4. Guinnesses family Vanden Plas Landaulet
5. Lancefield bodied tourer
6. US Embassey London Limousine,Cadillac bodied
7. One car for Governor of Gibralter?

At least one car was modified by a Newyork dealer for export to Australia.

There are very few V-16's which are maintained by DIY enthusiast's, in sharp contrast with Rolls Royce. Most are professionally maintained for well heeled owners and so information and procedures for maintenance and running of these cars are not easily available.

This particular V-16 has gone through many colour changes. I have asked Mr. Moin, Sh Mukhtar's son to jog his memory on colours when they acquired the car. That's him in the pictures with his father. Pictures courtesy Mr Moin with kind permission for me to post.

The military dictator Ayub Khan also got hold of a 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible for the government house use in an attempt to match his political rival.

The most extensive collection of V16 Caddies I have ever seen is at the Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar California, each of the production years is on display.

The earlier cars with the OHV engines in my opinion are the superior ones.

Hi, these pics of the Sheikhs cars, Duessy, Caddy were most interesting and the 540K was a revelation.

When the Caddy was in Mumbai, my friends grandfather had worked on that car. He knew the Sheikh and he was a towering personality.

In my collection I did manage to obtain a pic of the Caddy, pictured on our famous Marine Drive opposite Sea Face Hotel which must be still in existence, at least the building is. The water hydrant by itself is now collectible, but here it is an irritation just like my neon.

What a majestic and fantastic car that was!

I suspect that this was a breakdown because of the palm leaf placed at the rear, and the man appears to be minding the car. A random passerby may have taken this photo, appreciating the machine.

Cheers harit

That would not be a breakdown but one the early saplings of Palm Trees in their cages not to be vandalised or watered .

Great Picture

Cheers

Would like to stand corrected Kasli but the car in your picture is an Ex-Mr. Ratan N. Tata car and now in possession of Mr. H W Bhatnagar?
