Cadillacs in India-travancore-cadillac-october-1946.jpg

A Travancore State Cadillac Limousine October 1946

Going by the four chrome spears on the bonnet side (behind the spare tyre), I am tempted to say it is a 1937 Series 70/75/85

The wing lamps I believe were unique to export cars (not U.S. spec)

Is she still around ? Looks very similar to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan / Bhatnagar car.

Here are some more pictures of the Sheikh Mukhtar Cadillac V-16, given by his son Moin ud din Sheikh, now living in California. I have always taken an issue with the family, being in movie business where photography was everyday affair, that they have precious little photos of their cars. So they keep digging up some, though I would expect studio quality pictures should have been taken. and in colour.
One with Meena Kumari Sahiba on the set for Noor Jehan film is well known.Notice the car has one white wall tyre so Sheikh Sahib is standing in front of it to conceal it, away from the very pretty actress. I would have been hugging her for posterity if I were him.
The other shows Moin Sahib and his elder brother Muhammad Ali (now deceased), with their father Sheikh Mukhtar and the V16, in I think a faded colour picture.
Most rare and interesting is the picture where the new beaming owner Sheikh Mukhtar ( large fellow) is pushing the car with his driver, the diminutive fellow whose name escapes me now, and other servants just after taking delivery, on the road to his home. Notice the headlamps etc not mounted on the car which was bought languishing in a workshop. And the single whitewall tyre.
Thanks to Mr. & Mrs Moin for digging up these photos .

Spotted this beautiful Cadillac yesterday night. The Gypsy seemed like an escort car.

This car was imported recently and was with a big collector from Delhi. Did you see the car in Bangalore?

The Ambani scions drove it for the Mumbai rally yesterday. Don't know if it has been sold to them or they were just driving it for the rally.

Udaipur Cadillac.

All is fair in politics, love and war.

Five years after this picture was taken, Maharajas were relegated to the pages of the history books

Did the Ambani's win a prize? Nowhere is there a mention about prize categories and the winners. Must have been embarrassing as usual.

Below is a photo of a Cadillac Limo. No idea about which and where, could it be the Bohri car? See how the rear side windows appear to be covered.

Cheers harit

Re: Cadillacs in India

The year of the car is 1941, for sure. You are right about the small, wing-mounted side lights; these are NOT Cadillac issue.
