5th-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs. 55 lakh

The new C-Class is available in 3 variants - C 200, C 220d and C 300d.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the fifth-generation C-Class with prices starting at Rs. 55 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model is available in 3 variants - C 200, C 220d and C 300d.

The new C-Class is larger than its predecessor. The overall length has gone up by 65 mm, and the wheelbase has increased by 25 mm. The car features a redesigned front grille with reprofiled LED headlamps on either side. The rear gets triangular tail lamps that sit flush into the bodywork.

Inside, the fifth-gen C-Class gets a vertically oriented 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest generation of MBUX and a floating digital instrument cluster. The all-new dashboard is neatly integrated into the centre console.

Some of the notable features include ADAS with active brake assist and active parking assist, wireless charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Burmester audio system and ambient lighting.

Coming to the powertrains, the C 200 is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 201 BHP @ 5,800-6,100 rpm and 300 Nm @ 1,800-4,000 rpm.

Diesel engine options include the C 220d, which uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit that puts out 197 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 440 Nm @ 1,800-2,800 rpm, while the top-spec C 300d packs the same engine but in a higher state of tune. It makes 261 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and 550 Nm @ 1,800-2,200 rpm.

All variants come with mild-hybrid tech featuring an integrated starter generator with EQ Boost providing 15 BHP and 200 Nm of boost. All engine come paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
