BMW X1 gets a 2.0L petrol engine, priced at Rs. 35.75 lakh

BMW India has added a new petrol engine option to the specification sheet of the X1 SUV. The second-generation BMW X1 was launched in India with only a diesel engine during the 2016 Auto Expo. The German automaker had announced that it will be introducing a petrol model as well sometime in the future. The company has now added the petrol engine in the xLine trim. The X1 petrol has been priced at Rs. 35.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is identical to the price of its diesel equivalent.

The X1 Petrol is available in the sDrive20i guise. It is powered by a 1,998 cc, four-cylinder TwinPower turbo engine that develops 189 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm of peak torque @ 1,250-4,600 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed Steptronic Automatic Sport gearbox with paddle shifters and the car also gets a launch control system. BMW claims that with this petrol engine, the X1 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. The company-claimed fuel economy of the petrol engine is 16.30 km/l.

Features on offer with the BMW xDrive20i xLine are similar to that of the diesel xLine model. These include LED headlamps with DRLs, cornering lights, dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory function for the driver, ambient lighting, panorama roof and a 6.5-inch infotainment system with BMW iDrive functionalities, Bluetooth connectivity and rear view camera.

Occupant safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, ABS with brake assist, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control and ISOFIX child seat mounts. It also comes with an Attentive Assist system that analyses driver behaviour and suggests when it is time to take a break in order to avoid any mishaps due to lack of driver concentration.
