Delhi bans BS3 Petrol & BS4 Diesel vehicles as air quality deteriorates

The government has invoked Stage II of the GRAP in Delhi-NCR due to severe air pollution.

The government of Delhi has banned all BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles until further notice.

The Delhi Transport Department has ordered that all BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel LMVs will be restricted from plying on the streets of Delhi with immediate effect. The order excludes vehicles deployed in Emergency Services, Police vehicles and government vehicles used for enforcement.

Vehicle owners who violate this order will be prosecuted under Section 194(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, which provides a fine of Rs 20,000.

The announcement comes after the government invoked Stage III of the GRAP in NCR. Air quality in the region has been deteriorating over the past few days, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting ‘Severe’ levels.
