Finally found a visor that looks & works well on my Suzuki Gixxer SF250

My initial idea was to design a custom clamp myself to fit a new Kawasaki Ninja 300 visor.

Visor Upgrade

As you know, the Suzuki Gixxer SF250 and SF150 come with a tiny visor as stock. When I got my SF250, it already had an aftermarket double bubble visor. Although it did the job of deflecting the wind, it wasn't aesthetically pleasing for me.

So I went about buying a Ninja 300 visor and fitted the same atop the small stock visor. I did that by drilling four holes in the stock visor and bolting it down with 4 longish bolts and a few extra nuts to allow for tilt adjustability.

Although it looked clean from the outside, from the cockpit, the nuts and bolts looked out of place and ugly. The vibrations from the bike were causing the bolts to loosen quite often since I couldn't torque them excessively without cracking both the visors. By 38,000 km, the Ninja 300 visor developed a crack at one side near the holes, and it was time for replacement.

New aftermarket visor

My initial idea was to design a custom clamp myself to fit a new Ninja 300 visor. I wanted to make one that has tilt and height adjustability. While I was searching the internet for inspiration, I came across a website called Meg.deals based in Coimbatore. They sell touring accessories like saddle stays, aftermarket visors, etc., for a variety of bikes.

They had a visor and clamp kit for SF250 as well. Although it doesn't have any tilt and height adjustment that I wanted, since my visor was already on its way out, I decided to buy that for now and experiment later.

Ordered the item from their website and it took 15 days for it to reach my home. It cost 2262 Rs, including shipping and GST. To be honest, I think it is a bit costly, but I guess if I went about making myself one, it would have cost more. I bought the black version and they also have a clear visor as well, which cost an extra 200 Rs.

The package arrived via Indian Post and it was properly packed with bubble wrap and soft foam. Although the packaging was damaged, the components all remained safe and intact.

These are the parts you get out of the box:

  • Visor
  • Two clamps
  • Nuts, bolts and washers
  • Two small metal plates

The two clamps are to be bolted against the mirror base and then the visor can be fitted onto the clamp. There are also two metal pieces that go on top of the visor to allow for better fitment. The clamp has another set of holes as well, so you can increase the height of the visor a little more if required.

Since I didn't have the instructions, I had a hard time fitting them. Two times I mounted the clamps the wrong way and when I finally got it right, the visor wasn't willing to go in smoothly. I had to flex the visor a bit to fit it to the clamp.

The result is a neat clamp and visor setup for the Gixxer. The new visor is thicker and of better quality than my previous one, but this seems to be a bit more curvy than my older visor.

Upgraded visor

When looking from within, we can see a bit of space there since the old small visor is no longer present, which is way better than my previous setup of longish bolts and many nuts. Meg.deals sells another clamp that can go there to fit GPS or phone mounts.

Overall, the kit is very good and I am satisfied. It looks neat and does provide the required wind protection as well.

Until next time, Cheerio!
