Kawasaki to bring Versys 1000, ER-6n to India

Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, Kawasaki has been on a product offensive in India, launching a number of new motorcycles. At present, it is selling as many as six models, including the Ninja 300, Ninja 650, ZX-10R, ZX-14R and the recently launched Z1000 and Ninja 1000. However, the company has decided not to relent and continue to expand its portfolio.

Apart from the Z800, which is expected to be launched in January, Kawasaki has plans to introduce two more motorcycles in India in the coming year.

The first one is the Versys 1000, an adventure tourer, with a 1,043 cc, liquid-cooled, in-line 4-cylinder engine, pumping out 118 PS and 102 Nm of torque, which is transmitted to the rear wheel through a 6-speed gearbox. 300 mm dual petal discs at the front and a single 250 mm petal disc at the rear provide stopping power for the bike. The Versys 1000 features an aluminium twin-tube frame, a 43 mm, inverted fork suspension in the front and a horizontal back-link suspension at the rear. India Kawasaki Motors’ website indicates that the Versys 1000 will be on display from January to June 2014 in its showrooms.

Kawasaki plans to follow up the launch of the Versys 1000 with the introduction of a naked street bike called the ER-6n. The bike sports a 649 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which is identical to the Ninja 650. Developing 72 PS and 64 Nm of torque, it is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The ER-6n is equipped with 300 mm dual petal disc brakes and a single 220 mm petal disc brake on the front and rear wheels respectively. The bike has a perimeter high-tensile steel frame with a 41 mm telescopic fork front suspension and an offset laydown single-shock with adjustable preload at the rear. The ER-6n will be displayed in the company’s showrooms from July 2014.
