Rumour: Kia to launch an entry-level EV in India in 2025

By then, brands like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors will also have new products in this price bracket.

Kia is working on an entry-level EV for the global market and as per a recent report, it will make its debut in India.

Kia has lined up a small electric SUV for emerging markets. It could go on sale in 2025. Codenamed AY, the new model is rumoured to be based on a "flexible platform" and could spawn an entry-level petrol-powered SUV as well.

The new mass-market EV is still a few years away and by then, brands like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors will also have new products in this price bracket. The latter currently dominates the segment with close to 90% market share.

Kia will enter the EV space later this year with the EV6 electric crossover. It is based on the E-GMP platform which is shared with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The EV6 is part of Kia's global EV offensive. The company plans to launch 14 new models and aims to sell 4 million EVs by 2030.
