Rumour: Tata Motors working on more variants of the Nano

In our previous report we had mentioned that even though Tata Motors has had limited success with the Nano, it has not given up on the car. The company has introduced the power steering-equipped Twist XT and has started working on new variants such as the AMT-equipped Nano Twist Active to reposition the car as a smart city runabout. Now if a report by Autocar Professional is anything to go by, it appears that Tata Motors could have even more variants of the car in the pipeline.

Tata Motors is not just concentrating on adding equipment to the Nano. The report claims that Tata Motors is working on a turbocharged version of the car which is being readied to be launched during the festive season. This development will see the Nano gain more power and as a result, deliver better performance. The car will be aimed at driving enthusiasts.

Those looking at economy and being kind to the environment have something to cheer about as well. Tata Motors is also developing a part-electric version of the car called the Nano e-rev. However, the company is yet to take a call regarding the launch of the car. Its future lies in the hands of the policy makers in the Government. If electric vehicles are subsidised, the Nano e-rev might well make it to production.
