Rumour: VW Ameo Cup cars to develop 197 BHP

Volkswagen India will be using the Ameo compact sedan for the 2017 season of its one-make racing series in the country. The automaker has specifically designed the cars that will be used during the racing series, which were spotted testing earlier this year at the MMSC race track in Chennai. Specifications of the Ameo Cup cars have now been leaked on the internet.

Media reports indicate that the VW Ameo Cup cars will use a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine that will be capable of putting out 197 BHP, while being mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. It is also being reported that the Ameo Cup cars are around 3 seconds quicker around the Sriperumbudur circuit in Chennai, as compared to the Vento Cup cars that were used in the previous year's races.

Additionally, the Ameo Cup cars are also expected to come with some electronic gadgetry such as launch control. Various chassis components like the brakes, wheels and tyres are expected to be upgraded in order to handle the increase in power output of the cars.
