Second-gen Formula E race car revealed

Formula E and the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) have released first digital renderings of the second-generation electric race car. The new car will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018 and will compete in season 5 of the Formula E Championship.

The second-gen Formula E race car gets streamlined fenders and an integrated splitter at the front, while the rear fenders form the end plates for the spoiler. The rear spoiler is split into two parts and connects to the central rib of the car. The car has a more aggressive rear diffuser as well. Like Formula 1, Formula E will also adopt the 'halo' crash protection system from the 2018 season.

Coming to the powertrain, the second-gen Formula E race car will have almost double the energy storage capacity that the current machine has. This is expected to give it double the range of the first-gen car and as a result, teams are expected to complete the full race distance without having to swap cars mid-race. Detailed specifications of the car will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, 2018.
