Tata Motors to take over Ford's Sanand plant

Ford's Sanand plant has a capacity to manufacture 2.4 lakh vehicles and 2.7 lakh engines per annum.

Tata Motors is all set to take over Ford's manufacturing facility located in Sanand, Gujarat.

According to a media report, both companies have submitted a proposal for the transfer of ownership of the facility to Tata Motors. The procedure for the takeover is expected to be completed by next week.

Tata Motors had been in the race to acquire Ford's manufacturing unit in India following the latter's exit from the market. Tata's existing facility at Sanand has an annual production capacity of 1.5 lakh units. The acquisition of Ford's plant will add another 2.4 lakh units for a total capacity of 3.9 lakh units per annum.

Ford had invested Rs. 4,500 crore in the Sanand facility, which also has an engine assembly line with a capacity of 2.7 lakh engines per annum.
