Toyota, Suzuki partner to introduce EVs in India by 2020

Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to introduce electric vehicles (EVs) in the Indian market by 2020. In February 2017, the two companies had signed a similar MoU to work on vehicular safety and green cars.

As per the latest development, Suzuki will be producing electric cars for the Indian market, while Toyota will be providing the technical support. As part of the deal, Suzuki will also supply some EVs to Toyota.

Both companies plan to conduct extensive research that will look into the establishment of charging stations and training of service technicians. Besides this, the systems that will be required for the proper disposal of batteries would also be looked into.

Suzuki has already announced that a lithium-ion battery plant will be built in Gujarat. In addition to that, electric motors and other components will also be manufactured in India.
