Volvo S90: pre-bookings open in India

Volvo India has started accepting pre-bookings for their upcoming luxury sedan, the Volvo S90. The Volvo S90 will be the long awaited replacement of the S80 sedan, which is currently on sale in the Indian market. It is built on the company's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), which also underpins its crossover sibling, the Volvo XC90. As a result, the S90's exteriors and interiors will be borrowing several design cues from the XC90.

Powering the Volvo S90 would be a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which will be offered in two states of tune. The base D4 variant will put out 190 BHP @ 4,200 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm, while the top-end D5 trim will be rated at 235 BHP and 480 Nm. It remains to be seen whether or not the Swedish automaker introduces the S90 sedan with a petrol or hybrid powertrain as well.

Volvo India currently has its official dealerships in South Delhi, West Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Kolkata, while three new dealerships are being put up in Indore, Jaipur and Lucknow.

Once launched, the Volvo S90 will compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF, and Audi A6.

The launch of Volvo S90 sedan is rumoured to take place in September 2016, before this year's festive season. Prices of the S90 in India will be tagged around Rs. 50 lakh.
