Honda Amaze - 2 lakh sales up!

Honda has recorded sales of 2 lakh units of the Amaze compact sedan. The car was launched in April 2013, and thus it has achieved the said milestone in a period of just over three years since it was introduced. The success of the Amaze can be attributed to the fact that it was the first model in Honda's Indian portfolio, which was offered in both petrol and diesel variants.

After its launch in 2013, the Amaze got a mid-life facelift recently, which featured minor tweaks to the design, a new cabin layout, and a few feature additions as well. The Amaze is offered in four variants: E, S, SX, and VX. While all four variants can be bought with a 5-speed manual transmission, a CVT automatic unit is offered only on the petrol S and SX trim levels.

Engine options on offer include a 1.2-litre petrol that develops 86.7 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 109 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm, and a 1.5-litre diesel generating 98.6 BHP and 200 Nm of torque.

Honda Amaze spotted with RS body kit

Recently, Honda announced a new variant for the Amaze compact sedan. The company could be on the path to adding one more variant. The car has been spotted with a body kit at what appears to be the company's stockyard. This has led to speculation that an RS version of the Amaze might be launched in India in the near future.

The Amaze RS will get skirting on the front and rear bumpers and the sides, a lip spoiler on the boot, side body mouldings and a larger exhaust tip. If the Mobilio RS is anything to go by, the Amaze RS will be identical to the regular Amaze, but will be priced higher than the standard car.

The Amaze is positioned in one of the toughest segments in the Indian market. Its competitors include other compact sedans like the best-selling Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the competent Tata Zest and the Hyundai Xcent, which has the best-in-segment quality. For surviving in this segment, the manufacturers need to keep upgrading their cars frequently.

The Amaze has seen its sales fluctuate over the past months. The car dropped to last place among the four compact sedans in November 2014, but, climbed to second in the next month. With the recently-launched VX(O) variant and the possibly upcoming RS variant, Honda will hope to keep the appeal of the Amaze strong.

The journey saw the car travelling over mountainous terrains, coastlines, flat highways, congested city roads and the interiors of India. Honda Amaze CNG spotted testing

Last week we had reported that Honda was developing a CNG-powered version of the Amaze compact sedan. Now a test mule of the car has been spotted on the Noida Expressway.

The car that was spotted had a 'CNG' sticker on the top right corner of its rear windscreen. No other changes to the exterior of the car were noticed. On the inside, the car is also reported to have a switch located on the left side of the driver near the centre console, which is presumed to be the switch for swapping between petrol and CNG.

Going by the badging on the test mule, we can assume that the CNG variant will use the same 1.2-litre, i-VTEC engine as the petrol car. Unlike the previous-gen Honda City, which came with a dealer-fitted CNG kit, the Amaze will have a factory-fitted unit which will make it eligible for warranty and service benefits.

The petrol Amaze has gained a reputation of being a frugal car. The CNG-petrol combination is likely to make the car even more fuel efficient than it already is. The Amaze CNG is likely to be priced higher than the petrol version.
