My Ford Aspire 1.5 diesel at 47400kms: 7th year service & other updates

The only complaint was one of the rear power window not going up for which the switch was replaced.

BHPian tharian recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The 7th year service was completed last weekend.. The service included changing of all filters and the engine oil. The only complaint was one of the rear power window not going up for which the switch was replaced. There was an issue of the speedo needle jumping at times when the ignition is turned on and also the instrument cluster going dead. Since the issue is intermittent, the service centre didn't look at it. I have to continue to reset the fuse to fix it. The engine mount was checked and was fine. Eight of the lug nuts had slight wear and needs to be replaced soon. I knew this would happen because of the use of power tools at all the puncture and tyre shops.

I also added the Ceratec oil additive this time after asking them to pour less 300 ml engine oil. The change was felt within couple of kms as the engine became nice and smooth, but surprisingly I didn't feel much of a difference later on a 800 kms trip although there is a noticeable difference in low revs in city.

There were few rat attacks and thankfully they damaged only some insulation foam behind the front door hinges.

I had to do a emergency drive to Calicut for a funeral and returned from Quilandi in Calicut district. This was probably the only trip in recent years where the roads were low on traffic all the way, both ways. I was at 100 and hardly exceeded that speed and still was able to do the 350kms one way trip in 7 hrs with a half hour stop.

Got a fuel efficiency of 19 kmpl. The car has run 47400 kms

800km road trip in my Ford Aspire diesel: Key takeaways from the drive

The car felt a whole lot different because of the new tyres, the muffler back on and the upgraded brake pads from few months ago.

BHPian tharian recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

It had been a while since I did a Kerala trip apart from the usual Chennai trips which happens every year. The last trip was last December and although Christmas holidays are the wrong time to visit a place, especially towards Kerala by road, I had no choice this time. I had to visit Calicut and a nearby town called Quilandi. The car was loaded with luggage and passengers and we left around 6am mid week. The traffic on the Blore-Mys highway wasn't very bad and I was able to keep a steady 100 kmph all the way to Mysore with hardly any braking and it took just an hour because of that.

The car felt a whole lot different because of the new tyres, the muffler back on and the upgraded brake pads from few months ago. The new map as well felt different with the muffler fitted back. Earlier when I had got the map updated, the initial torque had reduced and the lag felt more although the engine felt more powerful once the turbo kicked in. Now, the power delivery has become how it was on the earlier map which is linear and the power is bumped as well, even with less throttle inputs. There is some amount of roughness that has creeped in which I am not sure if it is because of the exhaust flow restricted or because of some other reason. The idle feels noisy too and I feel the engine mounts may have to be replaced.

Coming the tyres. I hardly drove with the new tyres before the trip, so the running in of the new tyres was during the trip. The Conti UC6 surely felt different in terms grip and ride although I couldn't explore the grip it offers fully because of travelling with family. But on few occasions when I floored the gas pedal, I could feel the tyres gripping more than the old ones. The one thing I noticed with these tyres were the tyre noise which was only slightly better than the worn out Apollo Alnac 4g. Maybe it will get better as it gets used more. On well surfaced roads, it is fine, but on roads that have a rough surface, it gets noisy. Overall, with a loaded car and good speeds, it did a good job.

The overall fuel efficiency was around 19-20 kmpl mainly because on the return, I was doing around 3k rpm on the most part if the Mysore-Blore expressway and the traffic on Kerala roads being single lane always leads to some hard revving for overtakes and constant braking and accelerating.

The coolant temps did creep up again on two occasions. One was when I was climbing the ghats to Waynad in slow moving traffic and the other in Blore traffic. Usual coolant temp is 79-81c and on these occasions, it was between 85-90c. Not alarming.

The upgraded brake pads were a big help because the traffic on Kerala roads are unpredictable. Although I had driven multiple time on this route and others in Kerala, every time there is a close call because of careless manners of two wheeler riders and some cars who just stop with no signal on the road.

The trip was around 800 kms and the car has crossed 46000 kms.

Probably the only peaceful drive I have had between Bangalore and Mysore. The return reminded me of the old road because of traffic and every other car, racing.

A good looking 240D spotted in Mysore.

My Ford Aspire diesel: Ownership summary of 6 years & 73000 kms

I have as of yet not seen any decline in service levels post exit of Ford.

BHPian rahul4321 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

A short ownership review of my Aspire Sports as I touch almost 73000 kilometers. I have been postponing this write up since years now. I thought I should do it now as I just purchased a Jimny 2 weeks ago (courtsey of the year-end discounts) and if I dont write it now, I never will.

I used to drive a 2016 Punto Pure 1.3 Diesel which I passed onto my sister in 2018 after it crossed about 25000 kilometers. I started looking out for a reasonably fast diesel sedan once my sister took over my car. At that point of time - The BS4 diesels were still going strong and there were quite a lot of options available from almost every stable I looked into. I was not willing to spend upwards of 9 Lakh Ex-showroom so was looking at cars within this budget

I looked at a few sedans such as the Ciaz which seemed to have lackluster performance. I was not impressed by the Hyundai Xcent and how chopped up it looked to achieve the 4 metre mark. Ultimately, it came down to the Linea 90 HP and the Aspire Diesel and while the Linea was very close; I only bought the Aspire because I had been driving a Fiat for the past 2 years and wanted a change. Otherwise; as a straight shoot out- I preferred the Linea over the Aspire.

I did not really know much of the Sports Edition until I visited the website. The dealer was trying to push the Sports edition because most people were going in for the versions below the Sports or the top-end version over the Sports. I bargained hard and got the car for 8.10 Lakh on-road which I paid 50% in cash and 50% was financed by Ford as a zero-interest loan to be repaid in exactly 365 days.

What do I say about the car, the sheer reliability or even the service offered by Ford (pre-exit and post-exit). The car has almost clocked 73000 kilometers and it has been utterly reliable from Day 1. The engine is rock solid, torquey and a pleasure to drive. It has power in each gear and it can hold speeds of 120 km/hr all day long without breaking a sweat. I get the car serviced every 1 year / 10000 kilometers without fail and the service experience has been nothing less than exemplary.

The car came shod with Apollo Alnac 4g's which ran for about 56000 kilometers before I replaced them with another set of Apollo Alnac's on the recommendation of bhpian Tharian. I have driven the car everywhere. Multiple trips from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune and Rajasthan - it keeps rolling without a sweat. Yes - the car is low and the Sports version is even more low - so you have to keep a tight watch on bumps or ruts because the car has a tendency to scrape its front wing.

The 6 year experience has been flawless for the most part apart from some items which I have got replaced in my 7 year extended warranty; damaged wheel lug nuts, a front power window switch, a door locking mechanism and something under the dashboard near the AC vents which makes a whirring noise everytime I start up the car. The last one is a common complaint between all Figo and Aspire owners.

The service pre Ford Exit was impeccable and the service post Ford Exit is the same. I recently got my front suspension changed at around 70000 kilometers because it was making a loud thudding / rattling noise. I asked the service station to ensure they fit the correct spec suspension by looking it up from the Chassis number. To their credit - they took a couple of days but were able to source it for me.

The car has been in a couple of accidents. (a) A drunk on a two-wheeler (Yes in Gujarat!) rammed into my car at a signal from behind and the entire rear panel glass shattered into pieces. There was also a significant amount of damage to the boot as well as the left rear tail light. The insurance claim procedure had been flawless as almost everything was replaced. One thing I was slightly unhappy about was that when I went to pick up the car 3 weeks later after replacement - the back seat still had some minor glass pieces wedged inside the seat. I gave the dealership staff a piece of my mind as this could have cut anybody who tried to sit in the rear seat. They cleaned the entire car and washed it again before it was delivered to me. (b) a monkey jumped on the front windscreen of the car when it was parked at home and the windscreen developed a tiny crack which kept on expanding every few days. The front windscreen was replaced. Here too - the insurance claim procedure had been flawless.

I have as of yet not seen any decline in service levels post exit of Ford. Infact, my accident repairs as well as the suspension repair took place AFTER Ford's exit. The service station personnel are still the same and I have developed a good rapport with them. They are professional, prompt, friendly and never try to push or sell optional things whenever I put the car for service.

I bought a Jimny 3 weeks ago. The only reason I bought it because the Aspire had one major limitation which was basically its ground clearance. I could not tour on it in places where the roads were even moderately bad because the car sits just too low. The engine is fantastic but the suspension just cannot take the abuse of bad roads. The Aspire is at 73000 kilometers today and I will keep it till I can drive it simply because 1 - the car is absolutely fantastic in terms of drivability, mileage as well as inter-city touring and 2- my mum cannot sit in the Jimny as it is just too high for her. So I have 4 vehicles in 2 categories for my travels now.

  • Onroad / Intercity - Aspire and Duke 390
  • Offroad / Off the beaten Path - Jimny and Himalayan 411

In Summary - I have been absolutely satisfied with the car, the dealership experience, the service experience, the frugal nature of the engine, the torque of the engine as well as the power to cut through miles after miles in utter comfort. Would I recommend it to anybody? A 100% yes. The BS4 diesel engine is an absolute gem and it is one of the last of its generation.

My Ford Aspire TDCI at 44000km: Brake pad change & other updates

Disc rotors were in good condition and didn't require skimming. In city speeds, they feel the same as the stock pads.

BHPian tharian recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Brake pads replaced to Ferodo make for better bite and confidence at speeds.

The stock ones had around 50% or more life left, but they were not great when it came to braking at high speeds. The judder on the pedal and brake fade made braking scary at some unmentionable speeds. Once I drove a remapped Aspire with these pads on the highway few months ago, I decided I required these.

I got the pads couple of months back, thanks to a fellow member who picked them up for me from Engineering Exponents. Since time and distance were an issue for me, the plan was to get them fitted at a close by garage since it is a 15 minutes job. I visited a workshop who recommended disc skimming before replacing the pads and since it was my first visit to this workshop and had to leave my car there, I gave it a skip.
Last weekend I visited EE to get them fitted. Disc rotors were in good condition and didn't require skimming. In city speeds, they feel the same as the stock pads.

I checked with the contact at EE for WolfMoto about the smoke during spooling on the updated map they flashed couple of months ago. I needed the map to be linear as well like the previous one I had. This one has a bit of a lag at low revs and the turbo kicking in a bit too strong for my liking. They said they will work with WM and get a map to address these. For the smoke, they checked the MAP sensor since they tend to cause excess smoking on the TDCi engines, but mine was not dirty since my EGR had been blocked since the car was almost new. The MAF sensor was cleaned and the air filter replaced as well few weeks back since I felt the lag was pronounced at low revs. This helped a bit, but after a Blore-Chennai-Blore trip, I realized it was the map.

The map is otherwise good in terms of power which is more than the previous one and can be felt clearly while driving.

On trip to Chennai, I was doing a constant 2-2.2k and at one point I floored it in 5th gear and with a fully loaded car, it picked up speeds quite well. I got a fuel efficiency of 22 kmpl for the whole trip of around 670 kms.

The car has run 44400 kms.

Reseating the instrument console fuse on the trip which has become a frequent activity because of some interference when using the 12v socket.

Had a harrowing experience with Ford service: Sold my Aspire eventually

I had lost all my cool especially I needed the car the most due to rains and the daily hospital run.

BHPian AlokSharma recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I was a proud owner of a Ford Figo Aspire Diesel till last week.

I loved the car to the moon. The engine was fantastic, low maintenance costs, and the driving dynamics were good. I had even got it remapped earlier this year and boy oh boy, the in-gear acceleration was insane. It was a treat to drive this car knowing that roughly 130 horses and 275 nm torque were waiting there at your disposal at any point of time. It was indeed invincible.

The negatives of the car mostly started with the body shop experience in Jan 2020. The car got rear ended on the Western Express highway in Mumbai by a guy who was apparently learning to drive and the car took quite a beating from behind. I took it to Ford in  Navi Mumbai and they took almost 20-25 days to return the car back to me. The last few days, I had to literally call them a number of times to speed up the work. Finally they called and returned the car. After reaching home, while parking I realised that the angle of the rear parking cam was slightly off and upon calling I was told to leave the car again for a day. I was in no mood for the same and went about with my daily driving. Covid struck then in Mar 2020 and due to work from home, car was in covered parking in the rains of 2020. The next year in 2021, I started taking the car out towards the end of rainy season around August end and within a week realized that the boot had some water seeping in making the floor wet especially when the car was standstill in the rain. When I spoke to to the dealer regarding the same, they threw the 6 months body shop warranty on my face. Upon speaking to the service manager there, he then settled to inspect the car and told he would give some discount on labour charges.

Since I was almost done with the rains in 2021, I decided to wait. Fast forward to Jul 2022 and the problem had again started. By Aug 2022 the whole floor of the car was wet and I had to take it to the service centre for a thorough check up. Again the car was kept for almost a week - 10 days and he informed me about some leakage from ac unit form the front side as well. The boot was again completely opened up and fixed back with some sealant I was told. I paid for this fix up out of my pocket and now felt that this wouldn't happen again.

Fast forward to June 2023. I had a family member hospitalized and I was on the way to the hospital. I started the car and it started with a loud noise. Read up on the same, and realized it was related to the starter and fuse box. Since the hospital was just 1.5 kms away and it was raining I drove it till there. Again while returning back home, I heard the same noise while starting and thought of reaching home and calling up the service centre to pick the car up for inspection. I was just about to reach home when I could smell something burning and the car went off in the middle of the road. Since there was some amount of rolling resistance, I parked it outside my building gate and called up the service centre to schedule a pick up. They told me about the towing charges and so I decided to use my road side assistance on my car insurance. The car was supposed to be picked up 2 days later. On the day of pick up when I opened the boot, I could see that the floor was wet and it had also spread towards the lower bottom of the rear seats. I was completely aghast and furious about the same. Upon reaching the service centre, I told them to have a look at the same post the engine issue.

Now I was told 2 days later that there is an issue with the fuse box along with the starter and since Ford was shifting it's spare parts warehouse from Bhiwandi in Mumbai to Chennai and Gujarat, the parts would take a week to get delivered. I even got a call from a Ford India executive about the same and so I assumed bad timing and thought of waiting for the same. The parts arrived after 18 days. By now, I had lost all my cool especially I needed the car the most due to rains and the daily hospital run. They gave me some weird reason that they can't work on the leakage part of the boot as the car couldn't be moved to and fro. On Friday after noon I was informed that the service guys were handing over the car to body shop. I thought of waiting for an update till the next day morning from the body shop and it was the same guy who was the service advisor who had originally handled the work in 2020. I waited for a call till 2 pm from his side and finally decided to call him up. He told me that he was out with his family for the day and will have a look at the car only on Monday. I was literally pissed off with his attitude as if there was no one in the body shop to work on my car I thought. I decided to wait till Monday, and I had to call him back again for an update. He again with his lethargic attitude informed me that the body shop will start looking at the car only by 2nd half as there were lot of traffic of cars in body shop. My blood was literally boiling by now with his careless attitude, I decided to speak to the customer relationship head and service manager at the next day and gave them an earful about the same and told them that I was writing to Ford about it.

They hurriedly formed a Whatsapp group the next day and I asked them to assign a different Service Advisor to me. However they assured me that my initial service advisor will get it done and they started sending me regular updates throughout the day. Even till the next day there was no conclusion and I was told that there's no evidence of leakage whatsoever and if I still have to waterproof it further, I will have to pay up. I decided, I had enough since it was already over 21-22 days and I told them that I would collect my car that day itself. I called up the service advisor. He neither picked up my call nor called back even after 2 hours. I dropped in a message that I would be coming in the next one hour when I was conveniently informed on the group that he will need some time to get the car cleaned so I should come later at 5 pm. I said fair enough.

Upon reaching the dealership at 5.15 pm, when I saw the car, I was furious. The seats had black marks all over and the seat belts had fungus all over them. I gave the body shop manager an earful and stormed out of the dealership.

The next day while casually visiting my friend who stays nearby, he told me that a guy in his building is facing a similar leakage issue in his Aspire as it is always parked in the open and the leakage is pretty bad.

I got a call from the customer relationship manager the next day and she was quite patient in hearing out my ordeal. She was polite and accepted the whole behaviour of the service advisor was unwarranted. But she also told me that there has been a lot of complaints and traffic of cars coming to the service centre especially related to water leakage issues. On the other hand she said that now since Ford has shifted the spares warehouse to Chennai, it would easily take a couple of days for any of the parts to arrive at the service centre. She even offered to get my car's interior cleaned thoroughly at anytime I get the car to the service centre.

After the whole episode, I started thinking in the direction of selling the car as my warranty was about to expire in 6 months. Even though I could have extended it for 2 more years by paying close to INR 12000, I had apprehensions regarding the service quality going down the drain from here on and also the long delays to receive parts from across Chennai would ensure that my vehicle would stay at the service centre for a long time for any repairs.

I sold my car to Spinny and was happy with the price they gave me since the car was always 3M car care maintained and was in otherwise a good condition.

I wish Ford could have stayed back and maintained the service quality. I would have loved to keep the car for a couple of more years and enjoy it thoroughly.

Unhappy with Ford service: Rethinking decision to retain Aspire longer

For a simple job like replacement of a tyre, they asked me to book an appointment after 3 days.

BHPian Razor44 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My Aspire Sports Diesel is currently in its 6 year and have run 45k kms. Ownership has been absolutely fuss free and the the car puts a smile on my face whenever I press the accelerator pedal. I have always serviced my car at the Raipur dealership ( bought it from there too) and service has been a very positive experience so far. Now the dealership has been taken over by Citroen but the Ford service remains but through a separate entrance.

Recently the front right tyre got damaged and I took my car to service to replace it. However my experience this time was quite different. Half of the service floor and the office area has been taken over by Citroen service (don't know whether same or different owner though). The Ford staff seemed very reluctant and apathetic. For a simple job like replacement of a tyre, they asked me to book an appointment after 3 days. Apparently even running repair cases have to take appointment atleast 3 days in advance! Their attitude was very negative to say the least.

For the first time in my life , I felt a pang of regret or even some anger at Ford for leaving it's customers in a lurch. Recently Ford had sent a message that the Fordpass app will be available till Dec 2024, which made me think that the regular service should be available till end of 2024. And I was very happy with my car and was planning to keep it atleast for 2 more years. But now I am having thoughts of replacing my car. Worst of it is that my Ford with its solid build, fine handling , cheap service (cheaper than Maruti in my experience)and explosive acceleration has spoilt me so much that I am not able to think of a capable replacement.

Ironically enough, there was only maybe a couple of registered Citroen C3s on the shop floor and the dealership had zero visiting customers .

Here's what BHPian Kosfactor had to say on the matter:

In one of the biggest malls in Bangalore half of an entire underground parking was only filled with used Ecosport, I think Spinny was the dealer. This many Ford cars , I have never seen them, the ones in the city were giving it away and moving to other brands.

Routine maintenance is one thing but when something breaks, you'll feel the pinch, not recommended for daily use vehicles, so yes , please sell it off and move on. It's not that hard, there are plenty of good vehicles in the market.

From purchase to sale: Life with my Ford Aspire diesel over 1,18,000 km

Both, the Swift and Ford Aspire were brought within a year's time. One could easily notice the difference in ride quality by driving them.

BHPian KnuckleBenz recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Big Story Alert!

My favourite car has always been the Tata Safari since my childhood and after the Ambassador, this car grabbed my attention during my younger days. We never had a car until 2015. None of us knew driving and we used to hire cars and a driver for visiting Tirumala temple, for long journeys or for going to far away places. I used to sit in the front passenger seat and observe the gear shifts and the way the driver was driving the car like a fanboy throughout the journey.

Our family’s first car was the Maruti Swift VDi. It came home in 2015 and was bought by my younger brother. I am taking baby steps in driving and I really didn’t dare to sit in the driver's seat. By the start of 2016, I was ready for real speed in a four-wheeler.

By 13th October 2016, I bought my first car - a Ford Figo Aspire. We booked it on 6th September 2016. It was suggested by my younger brother and I was in deep thought and confusion about whether to go forward or not. As I am a tough decision maker, I did all my analysis. Starting with the reviews, comparisons, pros, cons, etc., I finally agreed to go with Ford. After visiting Ford, we had our test drive and also visited a Hyundai Showroom which was beside Ford's. I liked the i20 Sportz and really fell in love with it immediately.

My heart broke as the i20's price range was not in my budget. We returned to Ford and booked the Aspire. Before booking it, I saw the Giant Ford Endeavor. That was the first time I saw it, and sat in it. It was so mesmerizing! The salesman claimed a mileage of 7 km/l and it was the most costly of all Ford cars. I liked its younger brother, the Ford EcoSport, but my family pulled me back by doubting my capabilities in handling a brand new first car.

We made the down payment and the bank gave a nod for the loan amount of Rs. 7,40,000. The PDI happened on 10th October 2016 and the second car made its way home by 13th October 2016. The promised NILDIP coverage was not delivered by Ford and I had to write a long email to the Ford CEO. The response was great and so were the results along with an apology. The email was only sent after fights with the delivery manager and much patience. This email worked like a Mantra all through my journey with Ford. As an Indian, I will always like or prefer Indian products and will always be proud if they are a gem.

Swift vs Ford Aspire:

In a year's time, both the Swift and Ford Aspire were brought. One can easily notice the difference in ride quality by driving them. While driving Swift, I always felt like I am driving a lighter version of any car. The steering wheel is very easy to turn and no one has to really put in any effort to drive a Swift. The rear design was good and the front has a bumpy look. The seats are not designed for long drives and the music system puts out high bass.

The Ford, on the other hand, gives us a premium feel at the same price as the Swift. Two airbags, lesser maintenance than the Swift, topnotch A/C, good music system, strong doors, comfortable seats, more knee room, tough body and confidence at the wheel on any road.

I was surprised and also felt disappointed as to why Indians compromise on safety and quality. Even now, I see some Indian websites writing Swift has increased its plastic percentage for speed movements. Maruti has good cars and is also one of the top carmakers in India.

My brother changed the first set of tyres at 80,000 km which were made by Bridgestone provided with the Swift. The tyre shop dealer was in shock and said ‘are these tyres or rocks?’. Me and my brother were laughing at his surprise. The Swift always has some complaints and whenever it visits any showroom, my brother had to bear a minimum expense of Rs. 10,000. There have been no complaints with the Ford and I changed my tyres at 65,000 km.

Malfunction in Ford:

In December 2018, I was travelling to Chennai for my new job in an MNC and out of nowhere, a goat suddenly came on the road. The car before me just escaped hitting it but the goat was hit by the right side of my car. It flew in the air and fell into the plants which were planted in the middle of the National Highway. It ran away immediately and I was relieved that it was alive. It made a small tear in my bumper which was not noticeable.

In April 2019, there was an alarm where the speedometer hit 120 and returned to zero even though the car was in neutral. I was working in Bangalore I and mentioned the issue at a nearby showroom. They said it was a never seen issue and that it was a fault. They connected a laptop and solved it. The rains in Bangalore are always ready to surprise us. Whenever I put the car in roadside potholes or in a pothole clogged with rain water, the light would come on and the car would go crazy.

Many showrooms and many mechanics tried and finally, it didn’t show up again after a battery change. Some places in a Ford car should not be touched during a car wash or you will be surprised to see it behaving like a bad robot.

Maintenance of Ford:

Ford gives a manual for periodic service charges at different km like other car manufacturers. MRF tyres were on the wheels when we bought the car. I spent:

  • Rs. 19,000 for 4 Bridgestone tyres in 2019 at 61,545 km
  • Rs, 3,700 for Exide Battery in 2020
  • Rs. 8,000 for A/C Compressor in July 2021
  • Rs. 9,200 Yokohoma tyres in December 2021 at 97,000 km
  • Parts like A Mount, clutch plate, door switch etc. in 21,613 in August 2022
  • Rs. 8,000 for B, C Mount etc in January 2023
  • Rs. 8,400 for tyres in February 2023
  • Rs. 4,350 for battery in March 2023
  • Rs. 50,413 for all 10 services up to 1 lakh km

I never preferred wheel alignment and balancing at the showroom and got it done outside.

Rs. 9,59,400 was the car's cost with a bank loan.

Pros:

  • Being a frequent traveller, Ford never disappointed me anytime whatever the road and climate.
  • Less maintenance compared to other cars except that malfunctioning sensor.
  • Great A/C. Chills in minutes and Ford cars are very well known for their A/Cs if I am not wrong. Also heard from other car owners.
  • Ride quality. Very quiet inside the cabin like a petrol engine.
  • Powerful 1,498 cc engine with 99 bhp @ 3,750 rpm and 215 Nm @ 1,750-3,000 rpm. Although a diesel engine, it's powerful and pleasing to drive.
  • Great pickup. Takes you to high speed in very quick time.
  • Great control. I heard great drivers are great controllers of a car. I don’t say I am a great driver, but the Ford can be controlled very well and can be brought from 120 to zero in a blink of an eye blink.
  • Power steering, ABS, fog lights, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, mileage of 23.85 km/l, front & rear power windows, dual airbags, etc.
  • Can go for miles with comfortable seating.
  • Longest single ride with no stops except for breakfast and dinner was from Ooty to Vizag.
  • Ford parts are cheaper than Maruti and also reliable.

Cons:

  • If you have a complaint, no mechanic dares to touch it. Many don’t know about the car and call it a computer although they can repair anything in Maruti and Hyundai.
  • Like all car manufacturers, not all Ford service centres are good. I always prefer Hyderabad’s Tollychowki service centre and it's best till date in my opinion.
  • Spare parts come from Chennai and are not readily available in many parts of the country.
  • Not everyone is a fan of Ford and has any idea of the company. Due to the rumour ‘Ford parts were costly’ until the establishment of the plant in Gujarat, it kept Ford as the last choice for many. The resale value is less unless another Ford car owner buys it.

Memories with Ford:

I had many long trips in the Ford. I drove it in all South Indian states. From my jobs to my marriage it was always a part of my life and travelled along. Never left me stranded. First car or first love is always memorable I will always be proud that I owned a Ford. I travelled miles and miles in the Ford. 1,18,000 km were driven in the Ford before it left me on 2nd May 2023. It was gone at a very low price as per my opinion (Rs. 3,20,000) as I had to replace it with a Hyundai Venue. I will surely consider Ford if it returns to India with an electric car.

Engine jerking issues in my Ford Aspire: ASC clueless on the cause

Weirdly, this happens at random and I'm not able to explain this to anyone except my dad who has witnessed this in action.

BHPian Orcus recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have a weird problem with my 2018 Figo Aspire (pre-facelift).

The engine jerks unexpectedly out of the blue and the intensity of it varies from time to time. It feels as if the fuel line is choked and the engine is struggling for fuel supply trying to stay running and give power. I've not been able to drill down to the cause of these instances happening. This happens sometime even in just 200 meters of driving with a single occupant (me - the driver) or even after riding 200/400kms.

Weirdly, this happens at random and I'm not able to explain this to anyone except my dad who has witnessed this in action multiple times being the passenger. I only have 2 videos of it (luckily) attached inline captured when the jerks were too strong and I parked the vehicle aside to capture it from the engine bay as well as the tachometer going up and down on the dash.

Adding to the problem is that I took the car twice to the service station to report the issue, and both times they returned the vehicle as is, saying they couldn't spot the issue either while driving or on sensor readings. They even claim that they checked the fuel line for any faults, but couldn't find any. Not sure if I can believe them.

Since the issue started, I've (cautiously) driven the car 1500+kms and the issue still persists at random to date, with the latest one occurring in a 400kms trip yesterday. The issue happened at 200kms which is when I stopped the vehicle for 5 mins and drove it again back 200 km to home. After restarting, while the vehicle behaved normally with minor jerks at some points.

Took my tuned Aspire on a breakfast drive with 2 other tuned Ford cars

Both the other vehicles had the same map as mine and so driving them felt familiar.

BHPian tharian recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

A breakfast drive this morning with two other re-mapped Ford Figo / Aspire.

Had an enjoyable 150 kms round drive on the Old Madras road. Drove the other cars that have upgraded to better brake pads which are non-Ford and realized it is high time I replaced mine. Those felt very confidence inspiring compared to the stock ones on my car which starts juddering after a few high-speed braking.

Both the cars had the same maps as mine and so it felt similar apart from the floaty feeling at high speeds because of the softer suspension compared to the Sports variant. The roll-on in the fifth gear felt stronger and that is probably because of the smaller wheels.

One thing I realized was that my car smokes quite a bit when the turbo is spooling every time. This began after the last remap. I'll probably have to get this map fine-tuned to reduce the smoke.

Car has run 43,300 kms and its last fuel efficiency was 15 kmpl which was mainly airport runs and this drive which mainly included high speeds. Apart from these drives, the car remains idle.

The other two cars belonged to fellow members Aston Martyr and Evil Messiah.

My Ford Aspire TDCI at 42700 km: Did 6th service & got a 4th remap done

I was happy with the current map although it has been around 4 years now since the last map update was done.

BHPian tharian recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Car has run 42,700 kms. Got the 6th year service done and a Wolf Moto map update done as well.

I had been giving the car for annual service to a certain Ford service centre since 2020 due to proximity after the my earlier one closed few years ago. The first service was good since they had just opened the centre at Hennur. The last two ones were just oil change and I didn't feel like giving it there again for some reason. I was looking at non Ford places and had zeroed in on Engineering Exponants, but the distance was a problem and obviously there is no pick up/drop available.

Thankfully a fellow member and Aspire owner suggested another service centre at Lalbagh and it turned our to be a good experience. The oil was changed with semi synthetic oil since they don't allow customer provided oil. I was fine with that since the service intervals for me comes upto only 5-6k kms every year. I added the usual oil additive as well (Abro oil treatment).

The reverse camera hasn't been working for a while and that needs replacement which isn't available with them. So I decided to put the original IRVM back since that has the flip for anti-glare.

Headlamp levelling was not right and that was fixed as well except that now the dim is at the level of bright and bright is good for heavy vehicles. Works okay since I don't do much night driving.

4th remap:

I got news from a fellow member that there is an update available for my existing map at EE. I was happy with the current map although it has been around 4 years now since the last map update was done. I checked with EE and the drive-ability of the new map was same except that it had more power. On the drive back home, I could easily make out the difference and the engine is much eager now. With the fresh oil, the engine NVH is good too and it felt it got better with the updated map. The engine felt kind of restricted too unless I accelerate more and then it moves. This I guess is because of the fresh oil. I will need to do a long drive to feel the updates. The numbers are 134/294 from 125/250 at the crank.

After I get the tyres replaced since they are almost end of life, the car is then good to go for another 4-5 years.
