Made-in-India Mercedes GLC to be exported to the US

According to a media report, Mercedes-Benz will export the made-in-India GLC SUV to the US. The first shipment of cars built at the Mercedes plant near Pune is expected to reach the US next month.

The carmaker will use its global production network to meet the growing demand for models like the GLC. Besides, overcapacity at its Indian plant could also be the reason why Mercedes has decided to import cars from the country into the US.

The GLC is one of the most popular Mercedes-Benz models in the US and is also one of the top-selling luxury compact crossovers. Currently, GLCs for the US market are built in Bremen, Germany. Mercedes-Benz has a manufacturing facility in Vance, Alabama, but the company reportedly has no plans to build the GLC there.

Ford is the other manufacturer exporting cars made in India to the US. The company currently exports the EcoSport built at its Chennai plant.

Mercedes-Benz Concept GLC Coupe revealed!

After revealing its BMW X6 rivaling GLE-Coupe, Mercedes-Benz has now officially revealed the Concept GLC coupe. Previewed by a recent sketch, the images make it evident that the GLC-Coupe will follow Mercedes-Benz’s new design language and will look like a smaller version of the GLE-Coupe, much like how the new C-Class mirrors the new S-Class.

The concept measures 4,727 mm in length, 1,593 mm in height, 2,151 mm in width and has a 2,827 mm wheelbase. While the vehicle is still a concept, Mercedes claims it is a “near-production-standard show car”. Design features include a two slat front grille with the three-pointed star in the middle, 21-inch wheels wrapped around by 285/45 R 21 wide-base tyres, “power-domes” on the bonnet and character lines along the body-work. The concept also features LED headlamps, day time running LEDs, frame-less windows and four polished stainless-steel tailpipes.

A brief overview of the technical details shows that the GLC-Coupe will be powered by a 3.0L, bi-turbo, V6 engine that makes 367 Horsepower @ 5,500 rpm and 520 Nm of torque @ 1,400-4,000 rpm. The power is sent to all four wheels through the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system via a 9G-TRONIC, 9-speed automatic transmission.

The concept previews a coupe version of the upcoming 2nd generation GLK (renamed GLC-Class) and will rival the BMW X4.
