2017 Jeep Compass spotted again

A couple of new spy shots of the Jeep Compass have surfaced on the internet, showing the upcoming premium compact SUV's front and rear. The Compass was recently spotted during a TVC shoot in Brazil. However, the new spy shots, reportedly taken in China, provide the best view yet of the all-new model.

Jeep has successfully kept most of the details about the Compass SUV under wraps. Hence, not much information is available at present. Reports suggest that the Compass will share its platform with the Renegade, and will be positioned between the Renegade and the Grand Cherokee in the company’s portfolio.

Powering the Jeep Compass will be a 2.0-litre petrol engine, which will feature flex-fuel capability for the Brazilian market. Additionally, a 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine will also be on offer. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic unit.

The Jeep Compass is expected to be unveiled later this month. It will be manufactured at FCA's assembly plant in Pernambuco, Brazil. It will then make it to China, where FCA will be producing the Compass under its Joint Venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group. Eventually, FCA is also expected to bring the Compass to India, where it will be locally assembled at FCA's plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra.

Jeep Compass (551) spied undisguised in Brazil

Jeep's upcoming compact SUV, codenamed the 551 and expected to be called the Jeep Compass, has been spotted without any camouflage in Brazil. The car snapped was probably being used for a local TVC shoot. The Compass will also be launched in India, where it will be assembly locally at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. FCA India has already confirmed that models assembled in India will also be exported to other Right Hand Drive (RHD) markets.

The new spy shots reveal that the Jeep Compass will basically look like a smaller iteration of the Grand Cherokee. It gets a traditional SUV styling, while some edgier design elements seem to have been borrowed from the current-gen Renegade. The front gets Jeep's traditional, vertically slated chrome grille, surrounded by the two headlight assemblies that come with a projector setup. On the side, the Jeep Compass gets a wide shoulder line, squared wheel arches, and a thick C-Pillar. The top-end variant will probably get a dual-tone paint treatment, considering the car in the spy shots has a white body but a black roof. The rear features wraparound taillights, while the number plate is housed in the centre of the tail gate.

The Brazil-spec model will be powered by a 2.0-litre, flex-fuel engine, or a 2.0-litre, MultiJet diesel unit. In India, only the diesel unit is likely to be offered. The engine is expected to be mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Unlike Jeep's first two products in India - the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited, the Compass is expected to be priced a little more competitively, owing to it being assembled locally.
