Rumour: Datsun to launch Redi-GO 1.0 & AMT variants

If media reports are to be believed, Datsun is reportedly planning to launch 1.0-litre and AMT variants of the Redi-GO in India. The company hasn't officially commented on any such plans yet.

The Redi-GO was launched in June last year. It is currently available with a 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder engine that churns out 53 BHP and a peak torque of 72 Nm, while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is essentially based on the CMF-A platform that has been jointly developed under the Renault-Nissan alliance. As a result, it shares its powertrain and platform with the Renault Kwid.

Datsun currently sells around 2,000 units of the Redi-GO every month. In order to further boost this sales figure, the company appears to be planning to introduce more variants in the hatchback's line-up to offer customers more choices, and thus expand its target audience. These plans are similar to what Renault has done with the Kwid - introduce a 1.0-litre engine with a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT gearbox.

As a result, the Redi-GO is now expected to borrow the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder SCe petrol engine from the Kwid 1.0. This engine will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an AMT option is also highly likely to be offered, owing to the increasing demand of automatics in the entry-level segment.

Rumour: Datsun redi-GO to get 1.0L and AMT variants by June

Datsun is reportedly working on two new variants for its entry-level hatchback offering - the redi-GO. While one of these variants is expected to come with a more powerful 1.0-litre engine, the other will get an AMT gearbox to enhance its city-friendly nature. Though the automaker hasn't revealed any official timelines yet, reports suggest that the two variants will be launched in India by June 2017.

The redi-GO is a brand reengineered sibling of the Renault Kwid. Both cars are based on the CMA platform and are offered with a 0.8-litre petrol engine as standard. The Kwid was launched with a bigger 1.0-litre engine in August last year, while it got the AMT gearbox in November. The redi-GO will now borrow these new powertrain options as well. As per speculations, Datsun will likely offer the 1.0-litre and AMT option only on the top-end S trim.

The 1.0-litre engine will be similar to the one found on the Kwid. It is expected to deliver 67 BHP and 91 Nm of torque, and will be offered with two transmission options: a 5-speed MT and an AMT. It remains to be seen whether Datsun offers the AMT gearbox with rotary controls as seen on the Kwid, or equips the car with a conventional-looking gear stick, similar to the setup found on the Alto K10 AMT.

All inspection and replacement expenses will be taken care of by the manufacturer. Official Nissan dealers have started contacting affected owners to bring their cars for inspection.

Rumour: Datsun redi-GO price leaked, starts from 2.39 lakh

Prices of the upcoming entry-level hatchback, Datsun redi-GO, have reportedly been leaked on the official website of the automaker. The redi-GO prices have been indicated to start from Rs 2.39 lakh. Datsun India will officially reveal prices of the redi-GO hatch on June 7.

This could have been a technical glitch from Datsun. The company seems to have removed the prices from their website after the image went viral on the Internet. If the redi-GO price mentioned in the image does come out to be true, it will make the redi-GO India's third most affordable car, after the Tata Nano and the Maruti Alto 800.

Based on the same CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid, the Datsun Redi-GO is powered by a 799 cc, three-cylinder engine that pumps out 53.2 BHP and 72 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox. Datsun claims that the Redi-GO would give a fuel economy figure of 25.17 kmpl.

Datsun Redi-GO to launch on June 7, 2016

Datsun Redi-GO will make its official entry into the Indian car market on June 7, 2016. The Redi-GO was unveiled in its production-avatar in mid-April. Now, Datsun will finally reveal prices of the Redi-GO hatchback on June 7. It will be placed in the entry-level hatchback segment, and thus the prices range would be Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh.

The Redi-GO hatchback is built on the same CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid. It is also powered by the same 799 cc, three-cylinder petrol engine, which was jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. This engine is capable of generating 56.2 BHP and a peak torque of 72 Nm. It is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company claims that the car offers a fuel economy of 25.17 kmpl.

The Redi-GO is Datsun's third product in the Indian market. Both Go and Go+ were not able to make a mark in their respective segments. Thus, the Redi-GO must be aggressively priced to significantly boost the company’s sales figures. Once launched, the Datsun Redi-GO will compete against Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, and Renault Kwid.
