Maruti WagonR with redesigned front end spied

New spy images of the reworked Maruti WagonR have surfaced online. The images suggest that the car might get a redesigned front end with a headlamp setup similar to the Hyundai Venue and a redesigned grille and bumper. The car could be named Stingray or XL5.

The test car appears to have a redesigned front fascia featuring slim turn signals right on top and headlamps placed lower down on the bumper. The car also has circular fog lamps, ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators and black alloy wheels similar to those offered on the Ignis. The car might also get revised tail lamp clusters and appears to have a higher ground clearance compared to the regular WagonR.

The car is likely to be powered by a BS-VI compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Reports suggest that this version of the WagonR is likely to be sold through Maruti's Nexa retail channel and is likely to be positioned above the regular WagonR.

New-gen Suzuki WagonR & Stingray revealed in Japan

Suzuki has unveiled the next-gen WagonR and Stingray in Japan. The new cars feature a radical change in the adopted design language, though the overall tall boy stance has been retained.

The Japan-spec WagonR is offered in petrol as well as hybrid variants. It comes with a two-part grille with chrome inserts, which is surrounded by a pair of squarish headlamp assemblies. The hybrid model gets two-piece headlamps, separated by a body coloured panel. The front bumper is also different on the petrol and hybrid variants, as the former gets a simple design with an air dam in the centre, while the latter comes with more contours and two additional black inserts on the corners.

Meanwhile, the new Stingray gets vertically stacked headlights with LED inserts, an edgy hood and a large single frame two-part grille with the Suzuki logo in the centre. The front bumper gets a trapezoidal air dam in the centre and vertical fog lamp housings on each side.

The side profile is similar across the range and is characterized by a B-pillar that is thick at the bottom but narrows down towards the top. A prominent character line flows around the front wheel arch, continues to travel across the door panels and tapers over the rear wheel arch. The rear gets a plain and large tail gate. The tail lamps have been placed at the intersection of the tail gate and the rear bumper, while the roof-mounted spoiler houses the LED high mounted stop lamp.

The interiors too get a comprehensive design change as the new WagonR features a horizontally oriented dashboard with a centre-mounted instrument cluster and a large touchscreen system placed below it. The gear lever is mounted on the dashboard itself. The Stingray too borrows the same cabin layout, though it gets an all-black treatment instead of the dual-tone look of the WagonR's interiors.

The WagonR petrol is powered by a 660 cc, three-cylinder engine that develops 51 BHP and 60 Nm of torque. The hybrid variants are equipped with Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid technology. In the Stingray, the petrol engine is tuned to generate 65 BHP and 98 Nm of torque. All variants can be opted in 2WD as well as 4WD setup, while transmission duties are handled by a CVT automatic gearbox.

Maruti Stingray might be rebadged as Wagon-R Minor

Thank you to BHPian blackwasp for sharing the price list with other enthusiasts!

A refreshed version of the Maruti Suzuki Stingray has recently been spotted with dual-tone interiors. Interestingly, the spotted model had a Wagon-R badge on the tailgate-mounted chrome strip, instead of the Stingray moniker found on the earlier model.

An official price list has also been leaked, showcasing a dealer communication that talks about the introduction of a new model called the Wagon-R Minor. This price list hints that Maruti might re-badge the current Stingray as the Wagon-R Minor. The automaker hasn't released any official announcement about the same yet.

If the Stingray is re-named as the Wagon-R Minor, Maruti might simply discontinue the current Wagon-R. Some speculations also suggest that the automaker might introduce a 7-seater version based on the current Wagon-R in the future. Use of the 'Minor' suffix in the new name might also be an indication of a bigger iteration coming soon.

Meanwhile, the model spotted with the Wagon-R badge looks identical to the current Stingray on the outside, while the interiors get a dual-tone black & beige treatment, similar to the layout found on the current Wagon-R. The seats also get beige upholstery. It must be noted that the Stingray used to come only with all-black interiors.

No mechanical changes are expected with the refreshed model. It will continue to be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine, mated to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The Wagon-R Minor will also get a new top-end VXI+ trim level. It will also be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

Interestingly, prices of the Wagon-R Minor are similar to those of the current Wagon-R. It will thus be cheaper than the current Stingray line-up.
