Does the SJ4000 model comes with the suction clip to fit in car windshield? or we need to order it separately? if yes, pls let me know the details of the accessory as well. Thanks.

Re: SJ1000 Action / Dash Camera - An extended review

Does anyone here use their mobile phone as a dedicated Dashcam ? If yes can you please post the setup and also mention which phone and how is the day/night quality of the video.

@Mods
If this is not the right place to ask this query, can you please redirect me to correct section or if this post is inappropriate please delete it.

When used in sunlight, your phone will overheat.

Oh I totally forgot that part. I do remember once I used iPhone in a car for GPS navigation and due to the heat, it went into some sort of emergency mode where you can do nothing except call emergency numbers.
It explicitly told me that the phone needs to be cooled off before I can start using it normally again.

I used a Sony camera (point and shoot) for a few hours. Here is how it was setup:

Video quality was very good, I am yet to upload the videos. But yes, it overheats - especially if you are driving towards the sun.

Hi, I am using my smart phone as dedicated dashcam and its working perfectly.

Phone :- SE Xperia Neo V (MT11i) (2012 purchased)
Android app:- AutoGuard Blackbox (paid, with background recording)
Using since :- April-2014
Accessories purchased:- Phone holder from E-bay (~Rs.200/-), Samsung MicroSD card class-10 (16GB Rs.750/- from FK) for non jerky recording.
Video quality:- Pretty good both day and night.

As for phone heating up I have never faced any problems so far.
Infact during my Chennai-Thiruvalla(Kerala)-Chennai drive in April this year the phone was recording throughout the journey. And it did a fantastic job.
I use it within the city (Chennai) whenever I take out my car and it has never let me down.
Will try to upload videos to YouTube.
Hope this helps.

Re: SJ1000 Action / Dash Camera - An extended review

Am planning to buy the SJ4000 Action cam from Ali express.below is the link.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/SJ400...700047786.html.

Here I am a bit confused as to which delivery agency I am to select.
1-Sweden post provides free shipment but will they take care of customs?
2-EMS-Charging 30$.I guess they would take care of the customs too since its India post?
3-Fed ex-40$
4-DHL-44$

The phone heating would depend on - duration of use, your location, weather, the phone itself etc! I did use the phone as a dedicated dash cam (G-Nex) for sometime. Didn't observe too much of heating - I did not test it in peak summer noon time.

Even I tried Autoguard blackbox. Pretty good app - can also record in BG.

The only problem was, with a non-expandable memory, I lost out a major portion of the footage and it was able to retain only the last 10-12 mins of footage.

Eventually, I went ahead and bought a dedicated one.

Any particular reason for not ordering from this one? Seems cheaper by $13. Shipping is also cheaper.

lol! Yes, do search around.

EMS would be handled via Indian Post our side I guess. No issues as such, I have ordered couple of items on DX/Aliexpress and always got them through free shipping - it does take a lot longer but the product reached you safe and sound. But mind you, they were <$15 every time so I guess customs wasn't an issue.

But as others have pointed, even Indian Post will pay and then collect duty from you - so should not be an issue.

Re: SJ1000 Action / Dash Camera - An extended review

Finally I would be getting my SJ4000 in 2-3days. ALiexpress has shipped it via DHL and as per their tracking status it has cleared customs (Clearance processing complete at DELHI (NEW DELHI) - INDIA).

Can anyone suggest a good 32Gb SD card-brand and which class should I go for?
