Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

The issue with Ford is a supply/demand mismatch w.r.t variants/colors. Most dealers are building up inventories assuming what variants/colors sell.

When my Dad bought his Figo a month ago, we started with booking the petrol EXI, finally ending up with Titanium. Even then, we had to wait an extra week because all Titaniums at our dealer had the hideous coral dash, which my entire family unanimously hates. The dealer tried hard to sell us one, before half-heartedly booking a fresh order for a Sea-Grey Titanium with black dash.

Fiat is planning to launch a small car in the Indian market in 2012, a 'small car' designed specifically for the local market.
Which car is this. Has anyone spotted any scoop yet?

Re: December 2010 : Indian Car Sales Figures

figo numbers are shocking! probably a temporary setback.

beat has settled comfertably at 2.5k mark.

on the whole year end sales are lower than the previous months. which can also mean a surge in the new year.

That's poor reporting by that website. 80,000 was the figure FIAT India wanted to achieve this year as per their CEO, but they reached only 46,000.
3800 cars per month with just 2 car models is not bad for a company that has a very bad reputation among non-enthusiasts.

It must be a translating mistake.
But If 46000 is true, That roughly comes up to 4k per month...if we see the sales figures of all the months on T-BHP, it will not cross an average of 3k per month(correct me if I'm wrong)? Where is this mismatch in figures coming from???

Think some messup from FIAT PR department there. They published the PR cut which they would have planned to post in December 2011 end. Good Advanced planning, Poor Execution.

You are correct. 46,000 was the sales target and they had done 24,000 till october.i.e 2400 cars per month.

Well, you could have arm-twisted the dealer for maximum discounts/freebies for the Titanium with the red dashboard, simply because you were being forced to take a car with a red dashboard, much against your choice. Armed with all those discounts/freebies, you could have then have bought a dashboard cover to conceal the "hideous coral dash". It could well have been a win-win situation for everyone.

I have been surprised by the low figures of the Figo, especially at a time when the Figo was declared the Car-of-the-Year 2011 as well as being adjudged Team-BHP Car of the Year 2010.

I feel that Fiat should say ta ta to Tata, stop selling Fiat cars in India and instead, primarily focus on their award-winning engines, which can then be sold to other car manufactures. In that way, Fiat will not need to invest in showrooms, dealers, service centres and multiple sales/marketing/administrative teams. People seem to love Fiat engines, not Fiat cars.

Are provided a total of 46,000 cars in 2010 and 80,000 cars sold in 2011.

Sales of Fiat in India are still very far from the 2010 target of 46,000 cars.
