Hello Everyone. Finally, I am a Team-BHP member

. Thank you mods for allowing me in.
Alright, I will try to pen down my experience of buying my latest ride and how the first few KMs have been. I bought Duster 85PS RXE diesel on 14th last month.
Following were my requirements:
- I had a WagonR and an I10 and wanted to upgrade to a bigger vehicle.
- Always wanted higher ground clearance because of those amazing roads in Faridabad and I visit my village at least once an year if not twice.
- I always wanted a Petrol car(It is another matter that I decided on diesel, more on that later).
- I drive alone 95% percent of the time and need a maximum of 6 seats probably once a year, so 5 seat car was going to be good enough for me.
- Budget was 9 Lakhs.
- I wanted at least ABS.
There was no particular requirement to buy and SUV, but I must admit my bias towards Duster because It was love at first sight about 2 years back
Here are the vehicles that I shortlisted:
- Honda City Petrol SV.
- Ecosport Ecoboost Petrol.
- Nissan Terrano.
- MS Ciaz Diesel/Petrol
- and Renault Duster.
I Test drove Honda City first and absolutely loved the way it behaved. It has higher GC than outgoing model too. I don't like that front grill at all but I guess we will have to live with those chromes for some time now on almost all the new cars . Honda brand image was another thing going for it. Interiors looked good too and I was happy and wanted to decide after test driving other vehicles in the list.
I did not test drive Ecosport at all because of two reasons. I loved the car when I saw it in US but the Indian version looked way too smaller. I would rather buy a polo if I had to buy a hatch. The small boot was a big turn off for me and hence decided not to waste more time on it.
As has been discussed before, Nissan Terrano is not too far different from Duster and still is about 70k more Expensive than Duster. Since it is more or less same as Duster, I thought I would rather check Duster. Terrano was around 10.3 OTR in Faridabad for the lowest trim.
For some reason I never liked Maruti. My experience with the sales team was not too great either. I called both Vipul and Batra Auto in Faridabad and they told me that I would get a call back which never happened. I still went to the showroom to check it out. I liked what I saw but comparing it to Honda city and specially Petrol, Ciaz had no chance.
Then Finally I decided to check out Duster. The experience with Sales team was not that bad and they followed up well. Now this is where I had a problem because so far Honda city was better than good enough for me and was well in my budget with a lot of gizmos and an amazing engine and a well received brand.
With Duster, I ran into a problem, Team-BHP told me Petrol Duster engine is not as good, specially when compared to city and mileage was only 13 which would surely come out to be 10 in the city drives. Petrol did not have ABS either. I thought I would give duster diesel a try and test drove 85PS. Well, I was in different world, The same road where I was driving city at 20, I was enjoying duster at 50-60 with no problem at all. That just sealed the deal for me.Though I absolutely hated the interiors, I have always loved duster for how it looks from outside and it's road presence.
So, I finally decided on 85PS RXE Diesel white Duster which was 9.60L OTR Faridabad. RXE solely because my budget was 9 lacs and there was no way I could afford more than that. If only I had some more money, I would have surely gone for RXL(O) which was 10.99L OTR. I somehow stretched to go for the RXE. I was getting a 20k cash discount or accessories of my choice worth 35k which was later increased to 45k after some bargaining.Following are the accessories that I decided on:
MegaAudio touchscreen HU with Navigation(MapMyIndia), Reverse Camera and BT.(32K)
Spoiler(8K)
Reverse Parking sensors (5k).
I have driven about 1500 KM which includes a trip to Agra(My Inlaws are from Agra) using NH2(and not the expressway) and daily office commute via the Guragoan-Faridabad road. The FE I got in first tank full was 17km/L. Still in the running in period, so I have not gone above 100 yet and I like it below 100 anyway.
