Don't worry about the percentages. OTRs trips usually take up all the time you have and beyond. The 10% can end up as 90% too. In the Mahindra Great Escape this weekend, the first few vehicles were back at the club at 12:30PM for lunch and then went on for other sight seeing. Meanwhile, most people returned between 5PM to 9PM and their long delayed lunch. I had lunch at 6:30PM.

The deal with raw files is that I need at least a few days to develop them and weave a travelogue around them.

OK folks, back to the Sakleshpur meet.

The meeting point will be the ramp where the NICE Road meets Tumkur Road. All distances below are given from this point. We will start at 6:30 am from this point - anybody late will have to catch up with the rest at the breakfast stop or at chandan's cottage.

0 km: starting point (NICE Road ramp meets NH4 / Tumkur Road)
11.1 km: Turn left here (junction of NH48 and NH4) towards Hassan / Mangalore
90.8 km: Hotel Mayura (Bellur Cross) on the LHS, this is our breakfast stop
143.5 km: Kamat Upachar on the RHS, after Channarayapatna
164.3 km: Vidhata / Gayatri dhabas on the LHS
207.9 km: Ossoor Restaurant on the RHS
210.1 km: IOC bunk, Kanchanaganga Fuel Station, Kollahally, on the LHS, we tank up here
212.8 km: Sakleshpur Town Hall on the LHS
218.7 km: Take the side road on the LHS here. A rusted board displays "Manzirabad Fort". This stretch is a sweeping right hand curve, take the side road just after the tea stalls.
226.4 km: Turn right here for a gravel road. You will come to an intersection, keep straight
228.0 km: chandan's cottage, turn right here and there are acres available to park your rides (in gear and handbrake applied)

Overall, the route is:
Bangalore - NH4 - Nelamangala - NH48 - Solur - Kunigal - Yediyur - Hirisave - Channarayapatna - Hassan - Sakleshpur.

Friends,

Get hold of a tent if you don't have one. Buy one or rent one. but don't come to the Sakleshpur Meet without a tent.

You will regret if you don't camp in the tent there.

Meanwhile, some inputs that will help you plan accordingly for having a wonderful time.

Mandatory Things to Carry
  • A Good Torch/Emergency Light (Don't forget this -- NO WAY)
  • Warm Clothes. It can become very chilly in the late evening/night
  • Blankets/Sleeping Bags/Sleeping Mats
  • Extra set of shoes/slippers. You WILL get stuck in mud. I promise
  • A cap. It will be sunny in day. Also a cap which will cover your ears to help keep cold/wind away.
  • ODOMOS (Liquid/Cream -- any one). Carry it.
Other Items which would be helpful:
  • mobile charger (one that uses car 12V socket is the best)
  • medicines for headache etc.
  • rain coat, umbrella
Food:
  • Saturday Morning we will have b-fast on the way @ Mayura Restaurant. This place is approx 90 Kms from Bangalore
  • Basic Veg lunch @ Chandan's place.
  • Dinner @ Chandan's place. Basic Veg/Non-Veg. Chandan will arrange for marinated chicken from Bangalore that can be used for barbecue on Saturday Night (what do veggies dow ith barbecue? paneer, potatoes?).
  • Booze: Will be bought from Sakleshpur. Choice will be asked @ Mayura when we have b-fast. This cost will be split amongst all drinkers.
  • Sunday morning b-fast @ swarga resort. This will be a simple b-fast.
  • Sunday afternoon lunch @ swarga resort.
Watch this space for more inputs.

Khan, sree et all,

Like I mentioned earlier that I was undecided. I dont think I will be able to make it.

I have Sree's contact details and a place reserved on his 550 in case I can make it last min. I will be staying at Chanda's place so no issues. (I hope!)

chandan's friend is not "into" OTRs. He eats, breathes & lives OTR. Where he drives, this is a

"GQ standard National Highway"
Salkeshpur Camping + Off Roading Meet (September 08). Wanna Join?-img_01962.jpg

and this is a "Take Diversion" sign.
