I saw a Black Beauty already being registered (Temporary) from Bangalore RTO and delivered to customer. As of now they have problems with RTO for 2.2 beast.

Hey guys
I too did the TD yesterday at A-One motors Moti Nagar, New Delhi
First when I entered the sales guy did not know much about the vehicle.
First thing I asked him what are the changes and he said that the engine is new and rest is the same. 1st shock.
Me and my brother saw that there were 1 EX's in the Showroom(Pearl White) and the other for the TD (Black). Due to lac of proper lighting in the showroom was not able to judge the appeal of the pearl white, but proceeded ahead with the inspection of the vehicle. Felt that
they had really improved the car this time. The last impression I had of the car was the one which a cousin of mine bought way back in 2001. I am very pleased to say that there has been hell lot of an improvement in the finishing of the car since then. the beige interiors feel really plush and compared to other vehicles in the same or similar class this felt really nice. The front leg room is good and the seats were also very comfortable. Pushed the front seat all the way to the back and then proceeded to the back to check the leg room as most in our family are 6 feet + in height and was not at all disappointed. Though I had an idea as I had sat in the car before but again wanted to try.
Anyway after that told the sales rep that I wanted to get the TD and he took almost 20-25 minutes (which I believe is a long time considering that there was not other customer at the showroom and it was about 1PM in the afternoon) to get the approval etc from his
boss etc. While starting for the TD my bro wanted to sit in the front passenger sat but again the executive refused as he told us that its company policy that the exec sits in the front. 2nd shock for me
When I started the truck was really impressed with the refinement of NVH levels. Even when I revd it hard and took the rpm upto 3500. Really refined and good. I small thing that I noticed when the engine was idling and when I pumped the accelerator there was a clicking sound from somewhere in the engine. This happened every time I pumped the accelerator. Dont know what it was but the sales guy said that its OK. But still did not believe him.
Then I took the car out for a spin.
Though I am not expert when it comes to cars but will try to explain best in words what I experienced
The truck was great to drive. Much better than what I had expected. Took it many times above 3.5K RPM and though it was not possible to drive at high speeds in the city, still managed to take it to 70-80 Km/H. The truck was simply a pleasure to drive. Did not feel the enormous weight & size of the truck, and was simply great. I had to really look at the spedo many times to see that the truck was doing 80K but dint at all feel like it did. Very smooth infact.
Took the TD of the new optra magnum a few weeks back (i was contemplating between the two) and as both the vehicles have the similar power and torque was not too disappointed. Though the initial pick-up of the Magnun-D is much better but for that I give the full credit to the weight of the Magnun-D which weigh almost 700 KG's less i.e. 1/3 less the weight of the safari.
But as far as the NVH is concerned the Safari is no less than the other Diesels available in the market. Wanted to take a long TD but the sales guy was a really sissy. Kept nagging and ruined the whole experience. Hense decided not to argue and proceeded ahead. One thing that I tried was when climbing a flyover put the car in 5th gear and was doing about 40K fully loaded with 4 men and was surprised that it did not stall. Is this ok or is it an improvement. Though it was really vibrating but did not stall.
Gave the truck to my brother and experienced the back seat for a while which was also very comfortable when the car went over pot holes on a bad patch of road. All in all a very good package. One thing that i feel is that turning radius should have been little less for city driving. But then I feel that it must be ok as I have been driving a Hyundai Accent for the past 7 years now which is a city car and much shorter in length.
The air conditioning was also good and the rear roof mounted AC 's cooling was also good.
All in all I feel that it comes in a good package and that too for about 9.05L (after disc etc) for 4X2 EX it worth it as I feel that its a value for money deal we are paying for the car and not import taxes etc which the government levies on imported cars. I believe that by buying the safari I would be getting full worth every rupee spent.
Most probably I may give the booking amount tomorrow to the dealer(Autolinks). He says that there is a wait period of 12-14 days on the Artic White color. though he has an artic white in his showroom but I feel that that vehicle would have been used for TD's and I do not want something which has already been used harshly before. So I told him that I will give him the booking amount and when he get the delivery of new cars from the company I want my driver to be present when the car is offloaded from the carrier. He says that its Ok. plus he has also agreed to give me Bridgestone tyres and free foot mats and mud flaps and I am going to take all this in writing.

Lets see...

Got the 2.2 LX Cycus grey and whole day was busy at the dealer getting all the papers and putting on the films. The colour looks great.

As of now all I can say is that the 2.2 drives great, all the apprehensions as of now quite subdued. The engine is great, the noise is reduced [though test driven EX definitely has more noise reduction, they must have saved cost also here in LX], and the AC cools quite okay. I have till now driven around 80 km in the city itself with some part in huge traffic due Durga pujas [ 10 km in around 2.5 hours] and some in EM bypass. Even at 4th gear one can drive even at 35-40.

So tomorrow the journey begins, at 6 am I start and first halt is at a friends house in Malda - around 480 km journey. Then again starting on Friday morning I am at Siliguri and stay overnight at my aunty's house. 20th I am in Lolegaon and Lava and from their my "forest" journey starts.

Will update in detail when back and/or when possible.

Its clear that 2.2 is way ahead of 3L and all those who wish to buy safari should go in for 2.2. you'll not regret this.
and as far new improved services support is concerned they have got a new form with 50+ problems mentioned over it.

[quote=harjeev;598484]Hey guys
I believe that by buying the safari I would be getting full worth every rupee spent.

I am not sure of this statement. Even when I test drove in Bangalore, the dealer was reluctant to allow me to take the vehicle on roads where I could touch 100 or more. I am skeptical about their intentions and the performance of the car.

I think driving safari upto 80 km/hr is not a real good test. You have all the right if you are buying to take a longer test drive and take it beyond 100 and check the perforamance and if the gasket issue is true.

My advise is please be more careful as you are putting your hard earned money.
