Nice snaps, congrats.

BTW I notice the logo as "VOLKSWAGEN". Is this new? I thought it always said just "VW" (or nothing?) on the back left.

I want to know two things - As it is a trendline it would be Red or white - what is yours ? I did not find mentioning whether your car is petrol or diesel. I am curious about all VW polo posts on team-bhp as I may return to India in October this year and planning to book a VW Polo TL petrol Red.
Thanks, mine is 1.2L Polo TrendLine RED, Petrol

Trend line, Comfort line doesn't come with factory fitted music system. I paid extra. Shall give the details of the accessories in later post.

Yes you are correct, initial production POLO cars had only Polo written, this I believe is started recently with 'volkswagen' written on left side and polo on right.

Wow! what is this? For a moment looking at the docs I was speechless. Is this something you got from VW? I have no idea now as to what is the correct date, and I told you what I found during my PDI.

Anyways, thanks Wildon for your help and I am sure you are going to get many many more Polo VINs to decode

Congrags Avon!

Looks like you have done a few additions already.
Music system, Body colored orvm and handles, mats (they look cool)...
or am I mistaken?
Can you tell me about the Door scuff guards. I am trying to see if the polo
ones will fit my Fabia!.

Yep! the 'Volkswagen' badge looks like a recent addition.

Mine is a 1.2L Petrol Polo, Trendline variant, Flash Red color

Here goes are my impression of the car in the first 3days / 118 KMs, not in any specific order -
  • After taking delivery of my car, traveled around 9KMs and did tank full. Total Petrol filled 29.xx ltr, so I guess car was having approx 16ltr of Petrol at the time of delivery.
  • Polo comes with 2 years - unlimited KMs warranty.

Some of the Passenger and Car services offered by VW -
  • Travel or accommodation due to immobilization or theft of the vehicle
I am listing this sentence additionally here as am told by the dealer, others please confirm if you have the same information - in case of flight miss due to the above mentioned reason, VW will reimburse fare of next available flight, if you are travelling, VW would provide 5star/the best accommodation available with replacement car.
  • Replacement car for upto 48 hours (car rental included), transport to destination or habitual residence, transportation of luggage and personal effects
  • Transportation of the vehicle to the nearest VW Dealership, on-site minor repairs, if possible
  • Dispatch of spare keys in case of loss, dispatch of fuel, tyre repair or replacement including spare wheel
  • Fuel tank emptying ( wrong fuelling )
  • Once you are inside the car, sound insulation is excellent
  • During start of the engine there is a sound that can be heard but it come down after few seconds. Actually the engine sound is not that bad, its kind of grunt
  • Visibility is very good but rear visibility is not that great, one may find visibility issues while parking in tight space and also Polo sometimes is deceptive in its size during parking
  • I liked the horn very much, the sound is unique and can be operated from both side of the steering wheel
  • Clutch pedal is a bit stiff and travels a l o n g distance, need some time to adjust. Break is excellent and smooth and easy to operate
  • Washer wiper control is on the right side of the steering wheel and indicator control on the left side
  • Wiper on the driver side can be pulled-up to clean the windscreen but one needs to be very careful while pulling up the passenger side wiper - it may break
  • Glove box is quite big with a sunglass holder, No vanity mirrors
  • 2 Front and 3 rear seat belts
  • Dashboard design - I would say traditional and simple, I like it
  • Head light switches are on the extreme right side of the dash board with a knob (similar to our old days fan regulators) to operate
  • There are lots of cup/bottle holders in the car - on doors, hand brake area, also comes with a 12v battery charger
  • Tilt (up/down) and telescopic (front/back) steering wheel is helpful to adjust to ones convenient driving position
  • Suit holder or whatever it is called (basically one can hang something from it) are present on both side of the car above the doors
  • Boot is huge considering Polo is a hatchback. Also, in boot there are 2 hooks, can be used to hold luggage/suitcases in place
  • If handbrake is on (pulled up), there will be a sound indicating the same and also a small red color display will pop-up on the speedometer
  • Till date I have driven 100% in city traffic and mostly in real B2B, to summarize, maximum speed 70 km/hr only for few seconds, 1st gear - 10%, 2nd gear - 50%, 3rd gear - 35%, 4th gear - 5% approx. figures. No issues in low speed handling.
  • If one is worried about Polo being a 3 cylinder engine - In this short tenure of ownership, had a short trip of around 5 KMs with 2+4=6 people on-board, no issues with Pick-Up (AC on), didn't scraped the bottom of the car in speed breakers, not even once (17 speed breakers crossed approx), yes, the front side bottom portion of the car also didn't touched the ground for once. Travel very very slowly in speed breakers and it should be fine.

No complaint from the rear seat passengers regarding the suspension.
  • One can take-off easily from traffic signals, no problem with pickup here.
  • I found the Polo to be extremely good handler in City traffic - also tried in round abouts, sudden left/right turns, U-turn, zig-zag traffic (those police posts to slow you down I mean). Yet to drive on highways, so no comments.
  • Front seats are very comfortable and I don't feel any hardness in the seats, rear seats - got the feedback its the same and very much comfortable. Rear seats can comfortably sit 3 medium sized adults
  • Doors closes with a thud. One is surely to feel very comfortable once inside the car, the interior quality is excellent I would say.
  • I am 5/10" and my wife is 5/6", she didn't face any problem seating at the rear seat when I was driving
  • To engage Reverse Gear - push the Gear Knob Vertically down => push left => push up. To disengage Reverse gear do the exact opposite and the gear knob will move up (vertically)
First (and other) Gear - move the Gear Knob left => and then move it up

Difference to note is - pushing vertically down only for Reverse gear. So, no worries for newbie drivers at least that by mistake Reverse gear may be engaged, it won't.
  • All 4 doors can be locked from the driver side door. Couldn't manage to auto lock 4 doors though. Can somebody confirm here, if after reaching certain speed or RPM doors lock automatically?
  • Well I think, the head lights could have been more powerful.
  • Everything is very much premium or quality regarding Polo, except for the fact - I cannot convince myself that the same can be said for that black color wheel nicely put in place inside the boot.

If I miss something, shall post in future posts. Shall be uploading pictures related to many of the above mentioned points and also other snaps.

Congratulations Avon! Thats a nice car you got there. The flush fitting in dash music system (good that you went for an OE accessory) considerably enhances the look of the dash.
Great to know that even the trendline variant comes two tone interiors. Is the steering height adjustable ?

Thanks Sajo. Yes I opted for the OE accessory Music System, it looks good, but note that it comes without aux/usb. I submitted a very long post describing my initial review about Polo where I mentioned about Tilt/Telescopic steering. Polo comes with steering height adjust across all variants.

Yes mats I bought it from outside, these are transparent mats, but the colour is white, in the picture it is showing as blue, shall give the details in coming posts.

The Polo looks good in RED (as usual) ,but the improvements required IMO are...

1 The dash board clashes with your knees (am 6.2ft)
2 the rear tunnel hump is bit huge which will hinder 3 people sitting at back

The 6th pic in your first set of pictures, with the 'polo' mark, I think its also called Door Sill Guards. I am unable to find one for my Fabia, trying to see if Polo ones will fit.

.
  • Travel or accommodation due to immobilization or theft of the vehicle........
  • ..............
  • Fuel tank emptying ( wrong fuelling )
Are we a developed world already? Can't imagine a car maker making such a offer in the volume segment! And can't believe my Skoda comes from the same house

I guess you are referring to the snap that I have posted of the dashboard. While driving till now I haven`t faced any issues with my knees touching dashboard, but yes, it would be interesting to get a feedback from somebody with your height.
Rear Tunnel gap is big, and even I enquired the same and was told that it is to make the car more secure in terms of safety, that's why I said 3 medium size adults would be comfortable in rear seats.

Well 2cents, I am not sure if same sill guards are available for Fabia as well.
Regarding the 2nd part of your post - the points that you have mentioned in your post are extract I mentioned from the VW warranty booklet, it came to me as a surprise too. Developed world? I don`t know, but yes, as we all know, India no more can be ignored by any auto company and hope these conditions are true in reality even though most of us won't like to experience it.

Congrats Avon for your car - Great choice! I feel the Polo TL is a very good VFM car, and would be my preferred choice for a budget of around 5 lacs.
The Polo is a fantastic car which symbolizes quality whether you see it from outside or inside. There is a brand new Polo in our complex in red color and it looks very good indeed, though white is my personal favorite!

Can you post a break-up of your total cost including 'Handling charges' or any 'mandatory accessories' charged by the dealer etc? I have a feeling the dealer here in Hyderabad is taking customers for a ride.

I have a comment to make regarding the front kneeroom - I am short (5'5") but I found the left kneeroom in the Polo to be cramped due to the partition of the central console ( as shown in your pic) so your left knee gets blocked. I like to sit with my knee little wide, so did not find it comfortable
