Datsun to showcase Redi-Go hatchback at 2016 Auto Expo

Earlier this year, we had reported that Datsun, the budget brand of Nissan, will launch a third car in India in 2016. The new car will be based on the Redi-Go concept which was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo. Now, Carlos Ghosn, CEO Renault, Nissan and Renault-Nissan Alliance has revealed that car will be showcased at the next edition of the Auto Expo, which will be held in 2016.

The new model will be Datsun's entry-level hatchback. It will be positioned below the Go and will be aimed squarely at the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. It will use Renault-Nissan's CMF-A platform as the recently unveiled Renault Kwid hatchback. However, according to Renault, the car will not be just a cross-badged version of the Kwid and will look different.

The Redi-Go is expected to be powered by a 3-cylinder petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission. An automated manual transmission could be employed as well.

Datsun is expected to launch the Redi-Go in the second half of 2016.
