Guys even before 2007 the OM616 was an option. They used to offer the older matador 2.4 Liter engine as the base engine. This was even for Judo 4x4. I had an older Judo brochure. So there is no guarantee that it is the OM616 engine especially if it was in govt service and 2WD.

svpatra is talking about the Trax supplied to govt and not Gurkha.

This is interesting news, indeed. I didnt know about this engine option in the Trax range of vehicles.

When you say older Matador engine, you are referrng to the one in the F305, right, 4x4addict?

I thought that the 2.4L engine was the OM616. AFAIK, The 'Matador diesel' is a 1.8L engine commonly fitted to old Ambys and Willys jeeps to destroy their souls in exchange for more mileage.

The matador engine was used only for few years but not sure till when. Judo has been using OM616 for a long time, any old judo is a good option to buy. There is always a unique about Trax brochures what they give in it is not always true. There was a brochure of Trax brochure i saw it 2 years back on net it had OM611 as a option when I inquired OM611 hasnt been launched yet.

Buy Gurkha and conquer the himalays! They sure look rugged as tough. Has anyone ever driven one? It looks like the Merc G-wagen from certain angle!

Nice pics. I guess they can be 4WD models with stickers on other (Wall) side? The possibility is there because i think only 4WD models came with those air intake pipes.

Note sure though. can be 2WD as well.. neverthless, we are INDIANS. so expect all leftovers..That too only from Indian Manufacturers.
Look at the Thar thread....
Took input from Indians (Team-BHPians).
Manufactured in India.
Launched in Europe???

There are 1000+ posts over that thread but yet we are

Two Gurkha owners on team-BHP saying this on the same day, sounds very strange.

Probably its not "As good as it gets". Like dinar said, good to look at, but in the long term a really difficult vehicle to live with?
Seriously, when you have a 7-8 lakh vehicle, it better be usable out of the box. Having features like diff locks etc., are good, but without proper support, this vehicle is not going to be easy to own.

I think people have a different reason for Sale, just my guess , now don't ask me what the real reason is? its surly not that they have realized poor support all of a sudden.

Cheers
