Punjab Automobiles Ahmedabad, But the vehicle will be registered in Gandhi Nagar CL 550 4x4 Major Rs.5.50 (On Road)

All the above prices are before the excise cut, so I expect the vehicle to cost less by about 20k.

Now I am trying to find the prices for Punjab. If I buy I will most probably get it registered in Hoshiarpur, Punjab or somewhere in Haryana.
Will there be any issue with driving a vehicle registered out of state in Delhi.

My basic usage would be weekend drives to OTR's and occasional trips to the hills and national parks.
I am very much inclined in buying this vehicle compared to buying a 10-15year old 540/550 and getting it restored.

Reason being
Brand new vehicle from the factory compared to 10-15 years old vehicle
3 years warranty
New powerful Engine MDI3200TC, 5 speed gear box,
Reliable and trusted engine. already working as a very capable vehicle in rural India as taxis
Easily of available parts and can be repaired in rural areas too
Jeep looks
Also relibility of a new vehicle would always be better than an old restored vehicle. Even is properly restored there are still chances of something going wrong.
Buying and restoring a 540/550 will cost me anywhere between 2.5-3.0Lacs. So the difference will be approx 2-2.25 lacs. But the 540's would cost more to maintain compared to a new vehicle. The amount of money I would spend extra on the Major will be saved in the yearly maintainance costs associated with old vehicles, better resale later, trouble free vehicle.

Also if I buy, I will keep the vehicle for the next 10-15 years and I think if I sell after that still it would command a better resale value compared to a 10-15 years old 540/550 which if I buy now would most likely go as scrap as at the time of selling will be 20-25 years old.

So now the big question
Should I go ahead and give the deposit on this particular model or wait as there discussion going on in another thread about the vague possibility of a all new MM540 relaunch?
Harjeev,

Bro, I am also thinking of getting a new Major 4x4/MM540 (in condition).

The last discussion I had with the M&M guys, they said, the Major 4x2 comes for about 4.47L on road.
The 4x4 counterpart costs a neat 4.98L in NCR (on road).

I guess we cud team up incase you got more to share about the pro's and cons.

Pls PM me ur number and we cud catch up and discuss.

Quotation of Mahindra Major Souvenir concept

I received a quote for the Major a couple of days back from a M&M dealer.

The modification of 2.25 lacs is for the optional modification to Mahindra Souvenir.

The main differences between the JEEP and the MAJOR
  • The MAJOR does not have windshields that drop down. See the wiper arrangement, and also no stops on the bonnet for the windshield to rest on and no place on the grill to tie it up. At best, the glass can be slightly opened like a butterfly arrangement
  • The MAJOR is not a flat fender. Its got rounded bumpers and front mudguard

Dear Arun,
I am planning to buy a jeep/gypsy in the next months (new one).
Major was definitely one of the vehicles i was thinking about.
This information about the windshield was something that i did not know. Thank you very much for that.
Regarding the second point, are you really sure? I happened to see a few pictures of Mr. Abiacherian (fellow Team BHPian) and i could not see these (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-of...ml#post1051400)
Could you kindly elaborate? Would be very helpful for a rookie like me.
Cheers,
Deepak

Is it possible to register EURO II vehicles in Bangalore.
In NCR we are not able to get them registered as the rule says that they have to registered atleast 200 kms from Delhi.

Atleast this is what the dealer told me!!!

Hello Harjeev,
I spoke to Mr. Khan from India Garage and he said that it is no problem in registering it. With an advance of 50K, one could book a major and it would be delivered in 3 weeks. That is the scene in Bangalore. Anyways, why would you need a major when you have such a fine MM550 with you ??
Cheers,
Deepak

Deepak. The reason you can register Major in Bangalore is because the DI Turbo engine in the Mahindra Series is now BSIII compliant. You cannot register any BSII vehicles in Bangalore. For example if you buy the Tempo Trax Gama with the standard BSII engine you have to register it outside bangalore. You will have to pay more for the BSIII Gurkha/TT engine if you want to register in Bangalore.

Govt offices seems to the best choice followed by forest dept(4x4 will be available with them).
Taxi wallahs are the end of the jeep life cycle types! They leave only scrap to be sold off.

worth bearing in mind that any/ all vehicles from sources such as the ones below are typically very hard used and not really maintained with too much care - therefore there could be expensive to put right if something goes wrong.
taxi wallahs are the absolute last resort according to me because from what Ive seen, these jeeps make their last rest stop with taxi wallahs before they chug off to the great jeepy scrap heap in the sky!

so it is the govt offices or departments the choice to get a used MM major.

i really like it since there is minimum overhang in the front and rear and it suits the profile of CJ3/Classic and it is SWB!

well first choice is 540/550, MM major is 2nd choice!

Major Saab....no offence to you!

The Major is not a SWB like CJ3/Classic, the WB of Major is 91 inch, closer to 95 inch WB of MM540 than the 80 inch WB of CJ3x.
