~2 lakh km. Don't know the exact number as the odometer doesn't work half the time .

You got it, sir.

She's been very reliable after the brand-new 2.5L diesel swap. No breakdown in 5 years now, although some niggles here & there keep cropping up.

You can say that again. She's got a mechanical feel & purity that is lacking in today's electronic cars.

Re: Mahindra Classic 4x4. 2.5 Liter Diesel. Back on the road!

Happy Birthday Girl!! And thanks for sharing GTO. I also spend my childhood and most of my teens in Jeeps. Learnt to drive in a Jeep. Though I have'nt driven one in years since Dad sold the last one. I wish we had kept that Grey CJ500D. She was awesome. Congratulations once again and here's looking forward to the next 20 years!

Re: Mahindra Classic 4x4. 2.5 Liter Diesel. Back on the road!

Many many happy return of the day to the Jeep and kudos to the owner who has literally kept her in pristine condition.

This reminds me of an incident that happened with me way back when I was working in Bangalore. I was bitten by the bullet bug and was on search for a good pre-owned CI bullet standard 350. After months of searching when I could not find the right one at right price, I was loosing hopes. Then I realized that the gentleman who lives in adjacent house has a old model standard 350 which is rarely rides. He used to park it in his garage and took out once a week (Sunday) to clean it up and for a short ride. One fine day when this gentleman was cleaning his bullet I went to him and started having a conversation about the bullet. I admired him for keeping it so well in immaculate condition. He told me this is his first bike and he bought it when he got a job back in 80s. That was a 1983 model. And then I asked him if he wishes to sell it as he rarely uses it and I'm looking out for a CI bull. And that gentleman smiled and said no and pointed to his little son playing around. He said he will keep it with him and one day his son will ride it with him being the pillion rider.

Few things like the bullets and jeeps are more than just a vehicle. And as you rightly said they eventually become part of the family.

Re: Mahindra Classic 4x4. 2.5 Liter Diesel. Back on the road!

Congratulations to you and a very happy birthday to your Jeep. I have very good childhood memories of being driven around in a Jeep until 1999. It was part of the fleet of a factory about 80kms away from Mumbai where my Dad worked.

That was a 540/550 if I remember correctly. It did everything from dropping kids to school to hauling factory machines and what not. Later, somewhere in 2001 it was replaced with Armada.

I have two questions.
1) Was the 2.5l engine upgrade a Mahindra engine?
2) When did Mahindra stop manufacturing this model?

Unique advantage of a Jeep #147

Went to a busy commercial area and there was no parking at all. Came across one empty spot, but no one could park there as the end of the road divider blocked its entry.

No problemo .

Off-roading within the town limits.
BTW, the sun tell me that you sure had HOT experience while getting back into the Jeep.

Its a kind of special satisfaction when you dont find the spot, but one where only the Jeep goes!

And.. Ah.. the way you turn back to look at the Jeep after it has been parked! Proud Owner!

Dhanush, I curse my Jeeps daily but I use them daily.
And every day when I see my Thar or DI parked, I stop to admire it.

I thought it is a problem only I had

Re: Mahindra Classic 4x4. 2.5 Liter Diesel. Back on the road!

Everytime i see your jeep updates in this thread i feel sad that i sold mine! An impulsive buy and sell.
Been pestering the current owner to sell her back to me since the past one year!
