Harjeev is actuall standing on the Mayapuri mechanic's head to get his work done. Plus he has also to settle with his cousin. The paint has been scraped off and bodywork was redone yesterday. Not sure what the update is today, but you will hear from him shortly.

i am it seems the apostle of patience in getting my jeep, its undergoing a refit since november beggining and yet seems nowhere near completion, a state of absolute resignation has descended over me.....lol

Hey all
Sorry for the long absence. I was busy at office and well as Ankit has pointed out, busy supervising the job at Mayapuri. Actually I go there every evening and I have deputed a person from my office to supervise the work.
The thing with these mayapuri guys is that they do the work very fast, but you have to sit on their head for them to do it on your jeep. But these guys build jeeps day in and day out. They are like machines and know their job very well.

The best part is that it take a max of 20 mins from my house to Mayapuri. Also in peak traffic I reach in 25-30 mins. Whereas at the old workshop, it was an entire day project and used to take 2 hours just to reach the place.
And man!!! Are these guys cheap!!! I cant even begin to explain, but will just say that there is a considerable difference. I won't go into comparison details over here, but will just say, It was a lesson learn't well!!!
Life is a learning experience... Isn't It???

A special thanks to Sanjeev Singh from NIOC, who has been of great help and support.
I have to get the the complete Denting & Re-painting, Metalwork, some pendin Mechanical work & electrical done at Mayapuri.
Also now when I think of it, Mayapuri has been seriously misunderstood to have a bad reputation.
When I think of it people who have got their jeeps done up from Mayapuri, not bought but also restored/ repaierd/ whatever you wanna call it are

Sanjeev MM550
Sanjeev JEEP CJ3B
Prabh/ Sarab CJ3B
Shashank Sekhar MM550
Kabeer MM550

All these guys I know personally, and their jeep are running fine. I have seen all of them preform at OTR's. Plus Sanjeev who is a regular at the NIOC OTR's, without doubt is a terrific driver, and his jeep has been completely doneup at Mayapuri. So if it good for them how can it be wrong for me...

I will be updating the status with pics in the coming days, but hopefully expect my jeep to be ready, finally ready in the next week to 10 days. But what the heck, I have waited months, so can definitely wait for another 3 weeks. HA HA HA

And the irony is as I mentioned inn my post around 12th march or so. I said that Ill get my jeep, so I think that I really got it. Whether that was in parts or as a whole, does that matter...

Harjeev,
Building/Re-building up of every jeep is probably a unique story in itself. Indeed these are all learnings and experiences, sometimes may be a bit sour, but still all are parts of the game. Nice to know about the experience in Mayapuri. I think they definitely know their work, but there has to be someone there all the time to get things going in the right manner. Hope at the end your jeep will come out good.

well thats a really positive feedback from harjeev regarding the workmanship of mayapuri.

till now all i have heard is that the work done by the workshops in mayapuri is not upto expectations and is substandard.

i think what harjeev meant is that if you get the work done by sitting on top of the mechanics, you get it done in a good way.

and if you buy a fully built up jeep from mayapuri, you end up buying a substandard vehicle and with no guarantee!

I think that is the case across India, if you want a job done right you have to stand over people and keep a close eye on what they are doing. Mechanics and body shops never turn work away and will happily tinker away on vehicles for months.

Also planning and prioritising work is very poor. Our engine was rebuilt more than a week ago but the guy would not start it and insisted that he would do so once the body was ready. Yesterday he tried to start it and the fuel pump needs work on it (despite it being checked in Mayapuri). If he had bothered to prioritise things he would have known this last week and it would have been resolved by now. As it happens the fuel pump has been taken to a local FP specialist who tell us that he is 90% sure he can fix it but he will be 100% sure in the morning (I wonder what he will do overnight to change the probability to 100% ?). He also sourced another FP locally which comes with a guarantee. So tomorrow another 100KM round trip to pick up a working FP.

Ustadji & Rubicon are great.
Its just that i din't manage to take any photos of the Rubicon the day I took the delivery, as I was in a very jubilant mood.

That right. Actually you need to trust the mechanic. The one where I am getting the work done is tested by Sanjeev, Shashank, Prabh.
I've come to know that disposal vehicles will take about a month and a couple of thousand kms to settle down.
They can't be compared to the ones that we just drive out of the showroom. But I have seen and driven the vehicles restored by this particular mechanic, and they all are doing good. Further these mechanics work on these engines on a day to day basis and have become experts over the years.

Even if we go to the best workshop in town, over there too, the job has to be done by a human being. So unless an untill we end up buying a brand new engine, we will have to learn to live with these small small issues and get them resolved as and when they appear.

And sitting on their head is not essential but will help to get your work faster. You have to tell them what to do and then check it on a time to time basis.
Another benefit that I see of getting the work done here is that all the spares are available on a stone throw distance. So the work does not stop due to non availability of spares.

Over here I would say that these guys(Mayapuri mechanics) are in a hurry to finish off work as the parking space is limited. So till they finish the work on one vehicle and it goes away, that cannot contract work on another vehicle. Therefor if they delay the work, it does not help them and on the contrary work against their interest

I am sorry to contradict you Satnam. I will say there is no planning an no prioritising .
Join my side. My engine was completed in the 3rd week of Jan and tthe vehicle is still not ready.
The rest 10% is to think, this is the most imp part, thinking, how much to charge you.

Do you think that the work would finish by the time you dad leaves india, in the next couple of days.
