Re: Mahindra Thar MDI - Driven!

Any update on A.C. fitment on Mdi, on both 4x2 & 4x4?

Considering one has to carry out a jugaad job on Crde, can a somewhat similar job be done on this one?

As per my friend in ITL motors, there is no update for AC in Thar Di. Though many owners have done it from outside.

Also, numerous 4x2 owners have been reporting one common and irritating problem: The openable windshield of the Thar Di leaks during rains.

Yesterday, I could spend some time with the CRDe and take to some places it deserved to go. Overall I feel the refinement of the machine is leagues ahead of the Di version. The engine and drive-train is very good. Rattles are very much less, when compared to the Di.

If only Mahindra had improved the plastic, interior quality. As in a brand new Thar:
  • The front passenger door cannot be opened from the outside.
  • The door lock on the inside passenger door is broken.
  • It takes ages to open the rear door from the inside.
  • All the AC vents were absolutely pathetic and were rotating around freely.
  • I wish there were no control for the AC, as the ones there are just
Other than this, IMO the Thar is a quite capable vehicle.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The update regarding 4x4 Di is that they have started the delivery and its said to be an absolute workhorse. Rugged.

AC fittment for Thar DI 2wd/4wd is an easy task, can be done out side very neatly.I have done the same task for 4wd Bolero DI at coimbatore with all original M&M OEM spares.

Rajith, do share about your AC fitment if possible with pics. How much did it cost you (total)?

Boss the concern is due to the presence of pumkin of the front differential exactly below the AC compressor for the DI engine.(Check 2wd Bolero DI SLX or SLE).One has to fabricate a adjustable clamb on top of the FIP, ie near the filter , Battery side fitted to timing case. All works fine.i have clocked 65000kms on this as of now.

Spike it costed me @ 60000/- with Santen compressor and M&M blower.

I can suggest South India Motors at coimbatore for the same.He has did a fantastic job.

Is it completely same in Di? 60K for A.C is little too much!

Great to see you vehicle doing offroading. Did you get it converted to 4x4?

Edit: So, XLS came 4x4 from Company. Great.

Re: Mahindra Thar MDI - Driven!

I am newbie to Jeeps and wanted to start of somewhere but am running short of cash and wanted to know if we can convert THAR DI to a 4*4 at a later stage?

If Yes what will be the approx cost and will there be a challenge in terms of reliability.

The Thar Di is also available in its 4x4 avtar, and now deliveries too have started. There is just a 50,000 price difference between the 4x2 and 4x4.

IMO, buy a Thar 4x4 instead of converting the 4x2 later on.

Great news I hope Mahindra is using IFS in DI 4*4

Any update on the drive and handling of DI 4*4? Is it the same as CRDE 4*4

Hi e4gleeyez,
Mahindra DI 4x4 does not come in IFS. it is using leaf springs with rigid axle.
