Intresting to note that Bolero Invader BS2 4WD costs more than Thar DI BS3 4WD

Bolero Invader GLX XDB 4wD BS2 - 5,78,514 (On Road)
Mahindra Thar DI 4WD BS3 -5,36,520 (On road)

@dhanushs - Where is this dealer, ITL Motors? Calicut?

How can BS2 vehicles still be sold and bought? Can someone please explain.

Couple of reasons that I can think of:

* Bolero panels/components used in Invader are costlier than the MM540 panels/components used in Thar

* Invader XDB houses the Peugeot motor whereas the Thar DI houses the home-grown M&M mill.

So the guage of metal used in an Invader ought to be thicker. Dashboard is one thing, I agree.

* Invader XDB houses the Peugeot motor whereas the Thar DI houses the home-grown M&M mill.
Does that mean the Peugeot engines are still being imported? I dont think so, I thought the the design had changed hands and Mahindra was building it from one of their plants. May be they are still paying a royality for using that engine.

I believe it is not just the panels and dashboard - other components differ as well.

@Spike....in some of the earlier posts I read that Thar MDI comes with Drum Brakes...I am thinking of buying the Thar MDI.....I did check with the dealer in Bangalore and they confirmed that they will help me get it Registered.

I wish the Thar was about 50k less expensive, I would have surely put my money on it.

I like it...but for the cost!

Question: These dealers, how do they manage to get it registered?. Do they make up the address of the buyer, to show he is outside Bangalore?

No, those are not standard fitments. The original THAR looks like - THIS

Looks like what we have here is a nice rugged jeep. Is it only available in White and Champagne? Has anyone seen the champagne color?

Like the looks, except for the Tyres. They're just too small and look out of place. They also look a bit pinched by the alloy rim which seems to be too thin. Moreover, they seem to be a road pattern, which in itself isn't bad if you're not an avid off-roader, but the low profile spoils the looks. Just my opinion.

For the price I expected at least power steering and front disc brakes.

You can see the Champagne Thar MDI's all over Rajasthan. I saw at least 100 different Thar's with 60-70% in Champagne colour, last week in my drive across Rajasthan. It DOES NOT look too good. Agree with the small tyres and bad interiors too.

@dhanushs: You said that the stock tyres were 15 inch. The Hankooks on this jeep is also 255/60R15, a much lower profile. Have you noticed an increase in pick-up due to the lower diameter? The final drive ratio would be different now and the speedo reading should be affected as well.

Could you tell me the size of the original tyres? Also, what is the PCD of the wheels?

Jeep Gurus, could you tell how the Thar is different from the MM550? How many of the Thar CRDe improvements have been carried over to the MDI as well?

Probably. In the old days dealers were free to do all sorts of fishy things, all in the name of a sale. However things have changed and the motor vehicles dept. is more cautious about fake addresses and IDs. I guess some people still do manage to dodge the bullet, so as to speak.

The stock tyres are 16". 185/85 R16 as mentioned in the brochure and also here somewhere.
