Carrier helps a lot.
A stand comes in very handy.
A lock to keep her safe.
Bought 2 & 3 already... it didn't strike me that it was an accessory... Need to think about Carrier. Is there any link to look at different models and their utility.

Not planning to fiddle with it yet. Bought the bike from Balaji Cycle shop here in Chennai and the owner Mr. Suresh is very friendly and has invited me to join their weekly ride, planning to take lessons from him on basics.

Accessories I had in mind was speedometer/distance calculator ($13 Schwinn multi function thingy), Helmet and most importantly Lycra shorts that will protect you know what....

Helmet is NOT an accessory. Its a Necessity.

I use this DMS ALU LUGGAGE CARRIER Cycling Carriers - Decathlon India
Using a bungee cord, to keep my small backpack containing clothes.

I bought this one because I can later fix this on it: DMS CHILD SEAT Cycling Child Seats - Decathlon India

^^^Not safe at all. You need to have a pannier into which you can put your stuff. Decat has decent ones at very decent prices.

Laptop bungeed on will one day fall, or be snatched. They cannot snatch from inside a pannier.

Forget a road cycle. Get an exercise cycle instead. You can change settings on it easily as required.

Riding a cycle out on a road has too many parameter attached.
Completely disagree. I had a knee injury which prevented me from walking down more than ONE flight of stairs without pain. And I was doing 50-80km rides on the bicycle just fine.

The risk of falling and injuring exists in any activity.

My office laptop stays in my office. When working from home, I use my personal laptop.
On the carrier is my small back pack. It contains my pants, shirt, shower gel and a towel.

Sorry, mis understood. Thought that laptop was bungeed on. Just a matter of time before it is snatched. Have seen it with my own eyes, but was too far away to do anything.

Under a physio's advise? I think the physio is in a better position to give that advise.

Thanks. Helmet, shorts, water bottle holder/bottle are in the top of the list.

By the way, just came back from a 65+ km ride. I was invited by Suresh of Balaji Cycles from where I bought the cycle. Bike held me well, rider - need to wait & see. There's similar ride tomorrow morning as well, hoping to make it.

Regards
Krishna

Re: The Bicycles thread

65+ kms ride. A BIG THUMBS UP.

I need to do something like this before Ramzan starts.

I will not be cycling the whole of August as I will be fasting. Its not the lack of food but the no water rule, that will be causing a shutdown.

Loaning my cycle to a very good friend in the interim. He will use it for his office-home commute of around 4 kms(one way). Am sure by the time August is over, he will end up buying a cycle for himself.

If this was with normal shorts, I wouldheartily recommend Rashfree, Boroline or Nycil (in that order).

You'll thank me later.

Hope the break doesn't make you lose interest in cycling ...

Thanks. Had it been alone I wouldn't have even thought I could ride that distance, but Suresh gave me the confidence and it took us 3 hours to complete 51kms including a tea break.

At the moment, there's no such symptom. Only my bottom and the bones that took the load are paining. Will be buying the shorts today.

Re: The Bicycles thread

Update:

Did a 60km solo ride on Sunday and 28km ride this morning. Planning to do 30km during the weekdays and 50+ during weekends. Planned so many things and in the past and have failed miserably after initial euphoria dies down, hope to buck the trend with this...

I know this guy personally. He is a very good family friend of mine. Let me know if you need any help in contacting him. Btw, even I am planning a visit to him soon, because I am considering purchasing a bicycle for exercise + to cut down on pollution and traffic congestion.
