Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Went out on a late afternoon ride and moved past usual turn around point. Instantly hit what felt like an endless downhill and in that euphoria forgot I have to climb it back up.
When I realized that I started looking for alternate route to go back and did find one. The villagers there promptly talked me out of it though, saying it's too steep and broken. There are no free lunches.

On the way back brutal headwind struck and made it treacherous. Had to rate the ride on strava as 1 bar less from "max effort".

Also doc, mudguard is gone!

Brilliant. See how clean it looks now! These flappy mudguards for some reason remind me of new age dog "parents" (and "sister" and "brother") who dress the poor pooch in the most ridiculous and embarrassing (for the dog) costumes because they think it's cute and believe this is the way to show that they love their dog as much as their human kids.

I digress ...

Did a nice 200 today (first one this year) and scored my first sub 9 hour (elapsed, not riding time) 200 ever. Chuffed! That too in torrential rains throughout and the worst headwinds (which we were literally leaning on and riding).

Had packed bananas in my jersey pocket, and dry fruit cubes and farsan (killer combo, sweet and salty and spicy!) in my top tube bag, and kept eating on the bike, stopping mainly when both bottles ran dry.

Wahoo shut down 14 km from home so I got a 187 instead of the full 200. Que sera sera. Could have been much worse. Uggggh!

200! Hot damn. That's a number I will keep dreaming about for a long time. Shame that the phone died. The other day I was thinking of carrying a small battery pack just for such instances. Did you ride alone? How many kms this year?

The phone did not die. When I reached home I found some message on the screen for permission for something and had to back tab many times to escape. And Wahoo had shit down. Got a terrible feeling that the whole ride had been lost, but it seems Wahoo shutdown at the exact same place on Bavdhan road descent that it's done before (I can distinctly recall). Anyways it had auto saved the 187 km till then so I lost the last 14. Yes I was carrying a powerbank and charging cable neatly packed in plastic and rubber banded in my jersey pocket. I ride mostly solo though I kept bumping into 4-5 of the same riders again and again (stops at different times by the side of tge road, while the other guy moves ahead, pretty common. The guys you keep seeing are the guys who are riding at near your sane pace). There were 150 riders on this route today, for a special brevet to celebrate 100 years of Audax. Special T shirt and medals too apparently. I did the ride on my own without registering for it. The aim being to ride and so a big one. The target being to stay on the saddle continuously as far as possible, and maintaining a decent tempo without going into the red. But it was tough, as my legs have now gotten used to 100 km max rides , and after that mark (till which I raced), tgere was a distinct dip in pace as the body went into survival pace mode to finish the distance.

Cheers, Doc

Wow, that's a good one! I didn't even bother to check this out under the settings. Enabled this for both my walks and outdoor cycling.

This watch continues to impress...

That's the thing about Pune. So many riders (even without any event). I was in Pune last weekend and saw hundreds of cyclists in Bavdhan, Chandni chowk, Baner, Pashan, Aundh area. Same around Khadakwasla - Sinhgad area. Just bristling with cycles! A stark contrast to here.

Awesome! You still maintained a healthy 22km average speed.

Did the same 200 centenary ride here in Bangalore. There were 400 registered for it so it was spread over 2 days 11th and 12th. These are some pics

Here I guess they broke up the start into two batches. 30 minutes apart.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Today morning did an impromptu Ganesh Darshan ride along with a friend. Started at 6am. First went to Kasba Ganapati, then Dagsusheth Halwai & Sarasbaug. Met a friend at Nal Stop over breakfast and then took the darshan of another friend's home Ganapati in Aundh. It was a round trip of 53.4 kms.

Congrats doc and goandude

I too completed the centenary 200 BRM in Madurai in which around 75 participated. This was my first BRM on MTB and man, it was tough. The relentless and harsh winds from southwest to northeast for around 70 kms made things harder. Had to approach the ride with a completely different mindset since I am not used to ride at such slow speeds for extended times. Overall was quite happy to have completed the ride within 12 hours (usual 200 BRM on road bike takes 10 hours or less for me).

My humble ride was a Cannondale Trail 4 29er with Deore groupset which weighs 16+ kgs with saddle/handlebar bags, water bottles etc

Just to clarify. I did not ride the BRM.

I don't do BRMs anymore. Have not for over 3 years now. And have no plans of getting back into that space.

This was simply a 200 km self supported solo ride on a day and route that 150 other riders were riding a BRM. And I bumped into (or saw across the road) tons of friends along the way, but was careful to disengage after the normal pleasantries, and making sure that none of them were ever behind me, only alongside or in front. Such are the rules ...

In a way it was a commemorative ride too, one for which I too might make and gift myself a T-shirt with the 2500 bucks saved doing it on my own. It was Doc's Half Centennial Commemorative 200. Under the aegis of the Lone Wolf Rides club, with a membership of 1.

Cheers, Doc
