The pics dont do justice to the nano ....... It looks much better in real.... This is the replacement for the Ipodmini which has been discontinued earlier this month.
Prices are as follows
Ipod Nano 2gb - 200$
Ipod Nano 4gb - 250$
One piece of advice if your planning to get an Ipod and are in the US... you get student discount thru the apple website and free engraving too.

Apple Computer’s iconic iPod still has the huge advantage in the market — but rival Microsoft suddenly has some bragging rights in the patent office. Creating a surprise twist in the portable music wars, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has denied Apple’s application to patent its method of using hierarchical menus to navigate through the iPod’s contents. The basis for the denial: A similar method outlined in a Microsoft researcher’s patent application, filed after the iPod was introduced but before Apple sought its own patent.

I might the biggest loser in case of buying iPod.
I got my iPod from US last month (10 days before month end) and this month they discontinue Mini and Nano is out.
Mine is 4gb Mini ... but I find the space very less as they say 4gb but you get only 3.67 gb for the use. So by this Nov. im getting a 20 gb or 30 gb one.

Well Nano is 2gb and 4gb... you get 500 and 1000 songs respt.
whereas if you go for 20gb or higher you dont have to looks for space atleast for a year or two.

Nano might cost around 10k in India and 20gb around 14k-15k

a Nano 10Gb would be perfect to carry. then you can have larger ipods for the car etc and a light nano to carry.

I know this, but I just wanted to know which one is a good buy. Because the difference between a 20GB IPod and a 4GB IPod Nano is $50 only. So which one is better?? The IPod's screen is also bigger than the IPod Nano.

Personally, I would go for 20gb ... More important i get 20 gb, 5000 songs in comparison with Nano only 1000. And there are plenty of accessories in the market to hang the iPod around your body.

its because of the file system structure

if you check the hard disk space too the available space is always less than the capacity claimed (e.g. 18.5GB useful in 20GB HDD)

the main difference between iPod & iPod Mini is not of price
its the size of the player

so depends on what you want

it might be mainly because of the size of Nano

Since the Ipod was launched back in the day, laptop sales have boomed and thus the demand for their hard drives grew, and prices dropped.

Ultra thin hard drives are expensive. Now the ultra thin drive being used in the nano is probably as expensive as the 20gb versions in the original ipod... but its lighter and smaller... and thats a market segment by itself

The Nano has a HD. I figured they'd have a 4GB flash memory (like SD).
