So, "BHAGWAN ji",
what's the review from your side then?
I mean with experienced ears like yours, can we have a detailed review?

Currently I have taken a fancy to T & P - Accutone - Driver based speakers. Ceramic & Diamond. I also just got a new speaker in with a woofer from Audio Technology [Per Scanning] & Raven R1 Ribbon.

He is the ex-owner of Dynaudio & SCanspeak.
Did not Lars Goller found GamuT or he was just the chief designer there? something like that.

Along with Lars, a lot of the SS guys (Allan Isaksen, David Stephens, Ulrik Schmidt, Frank Neilsen, Benny Frank Pedersen, Alan Hydel Jensen, and even ex-president Torben Sondergaard) left after Tympany took over. Most of these are involved in SCaR, but I believe Allan has moved to China etc.

BTW I believe that the Illuminator is still a SS product.
http://www.tymphany.com/files/ScS_Illuminator_Flyer.pdf

I was introduced to Accuton (along wth Cabasse) by Elliot Zalayet a Jew who founded a DIY speaker building company based in Mineola, L.I. Elliot is (or atleast was) a big fan of using Accuton mids and tweeters with Focal woofers. The Accuton 13cm midbass (92/6 I think) was bettered by SS and Seas units (he never tested the Focals) so avoid them (the 92/6 that is).

The Raven ribbons have been upgraded and now carry a ".1 or .2" suffix. If you are into ribbons try Aurum Cantus, Fountek, etc I'm considering the B&G becuase by removing the plastic rear cap it can be made into a dipole :-)

I assume your speaker has the 18H mated to the R1. The 18H is the most liked of all of AT's drivers. An unknown gem is the 15J (whch is also cheaper than the 15H). I heard the 15J mated to a pair of 8" Eton woofers and a SS tweeter.

and just to set the record straight it was Per's dad, Ejvind Skaaning, who was the founder/owner of Dynaudio and ScanSpeak. Per now runs AT/Flex with his 80 year old dad.

I guess, let LBM take the lead & I will fill in.

BTW - he played the music @ 'rather same' levels. I do not think we were above 85 dB's @ any point in time.
Hmm what can I say. Only one thing earlier the singer was sitting on the dash near the HU but not it is outside the windshield and the soundstage is wider. Rest Godji will tell.

Well I did get a chance to listen to LBM's car.
He was most generous in driving to my Hotel [in some village].
I was staying is a 'railway bogie' !!!

I sat in the Silver Swift and knew it was an SPL car. It was obvious !!

However, 'we' rather 'LBM' made some changes to his Alpine Processor & I was in a position to listen to the listen to the DLS's in my seat.

The Front speakers were ' semi active'
The Midrange & Tweeter were passive [through the X-Over supplied] & the 6" mid bass was active [through the Alpine Processor].

Please do understand that each and every audio install is tuned to the likes and dislikes of the installer / owner.

I made some 'basic' changes [what ever I could understand in 20 odd minutes - the time I had] and asked LBM to listen and decide what he liked.

I wish I had some more time.
I really wanted to work on the x-over of the front comps. The TA [Time Alignment] was 'sorted' but I think 'we' could have improved the 'intrgration' of the midrange & mid woofer if times were on our side.

I liked the way LBM had installed the midrange - custom made aluminium housing etc.....

I suggesed a slight modification, however, LBM may change his car; [I hope that was not 'classified' info] & hence was not keen on making changes, he said he will work ground up on the next install.
We did exchange interesting ideas.

The DLS Comps are not bad, need good amps & careful placement & installation.
That 'sub' is mad !! Some driver on 'steriods' !!! However, not the kind that I like. The slam was there, but the 'speed' I am not so sure about [sorry lbm] !!! The Carbons are much much 'faster' IMHO. Since we use the amps from the same stable [Mine is 3.02 & Yours is 4.02].
But, yours is an SPL Install & speed of the driver is of no importance to you. So you are down the correct path !!!

A wise Man once said that one man's "SPL car" is another man's "SQL car".
Different strokes for different folks.

Thanks for the review Bhagwan Ji.

LBM sure must be enjoying his music better after getting his system tuned by some 'experienced ears'.
Cheers

Sir, with due respect;
Have you ever had the chance to listen to any well installed SQ car ?
Forget a car, have you ever auditioned a mid fi audio set up ?
If so, then it would not be so funny so as to make you roll on the floor.

Mind you, this is 'serious'
We [I at least] take our audio rather seriously;

What ever I write or say or comment - actually happens, it is not some essay writing excercise.............

If you have never heard a 'serious' install, please do make the effort. Go, spend some time & listen to it. It will help you 'evolve'

If you are in Mumbai, pm me, I would be more than happy to share my work and experiances with you.

Thanks Godji. For some good tips about TA. Will be doing some tweaking on that part for sure when I get the 3rd amp to make the whole front stage active. Then doing TA will be a interesting thing.

About the Sub. I have not seen Carbon in action, But I wanna add here that this GZ is the Fastest sub I have listened in my whole life nothing goes faster than this.

Ya I will be changing my car in coming months and that will decide what will go inside it.

Thanks again. And for the CD also.

Hmm tunning.

Godji told me what all one can do with TA. But he also appreciated the way I have tunned it. So it was like one little experienced ear getting some more polishing to improve much further.
