apologies for reviving this 'old' thread.
My ICE was on a hiatus for the better part of the month, since one of the tweeters (left side) had been disconnected from the crossover, and I promised myself i wouldnt listen to music till it was fixed, since one tweeter would make it sound unbalanced; akin to being deaf in one ear!
Try as I might, I couldn't control myself from listening to music in my car, and I must say, one tweeter made the experience slightly........... irritating as expected. What I hadn't factored was that everything was sounding dead and the otherwise lively sounding Illusions lost their bite. The right side had the tweeter and the midbass firing, but the left side had only the midbass play.
Cut to today, and my tweeter has been connected.
LIFE HAS CHANGED, again! And how!
One tweeter made SUCH a big difference! My imaging is back, so is the liveliness, and so is the crispness of the vocals, and impeccable reproduction of vocals.
The Vocalist sings like he/she is in the centre of the windscreen just near the windshield washers, and I can actually pinpoint the exact location with the help of a laser pointer (ok, I got carried away. EXAGGERATING)
An example of this is the fact that I had a friend over for a demo and he was actually moving his head to the centre of the windscreen to see where the speaker was mounted (i was smiling like a kid when he did that!)
I don't know if this has been mentioned earlier by me, but on good recordings (original A-cds), the bass is so well integrated and tight, that it feels like its playing from the top of my centre console. Everyone dies for imaging like this, and I stress the fact that I have not heard such tight, controlled bass, so well directed! The only issue is that the slightest of flaws in recording are highlighted by the Eclipse. And that is not always a good thing. Some recordings just sound poor, since they have been recorded badly.
Yes, so coming back to the reason why I have updated this thread. Simple! There are no upgrades! I wanted to drive home the point, that all this chopping and changing that I did for the last 9 months has now ceased. Partly due to the fact that Dental college now takes most of my time. But mostly because of the reason that I am happy. So happy that I can actually get lost (on the road I have been travelling daily since years!) listening to music.
The music still gives me goosebumps and some parts of songs still make the hair on my back stand up. I love how this system sounds. Period.
I appreciate the advice given by all the gurus and other members on team-bhp, and every time I hear a marvellous musical piece, I have this silly grin on my face, after which I thank team-bhp for giving me the advice and suggestions that helped build this system piece by piece.
A couple of brickbats:
-The Eclipse user interface
-The Eclipse Bluetooth loses connection with my E63 bluetooth, but works flawlessly with older Nokia phones and other brands.
-The USB Drive still doesn't list full tracknames in the LIST function.
-Didn't find the Pause button in the manual, but finally managed to locate it on DIYMA. YES, there IS a pause button!
-The left has started rattling again. Seems like some areas need some more damping.
JUSt want to stress on the fact: If you like something, DO NOT change it. I wont. (Maybe a new set of higher end components, but not for the timebeing! ;-) |
