contd.
Unnnnhh. Unnnnhhh.
AAAAAAAAAAH.. It's out
The 7200MKII with its glorious copper chassis!
The MPR-999 Remote stares at the newest member in the family. They are going to mate soon
It's into the DIN adapter..
And in it goes!
Now, we move our attention to the YUMMY subs and the beautiful enclosure.
Screwing on the first of the 2 Luccent Subwoofers!
The insides of the enclosure are covered with some sort of foam and damping material to seal the holes made for the connectors!
Both the HOTTIES are on. With their butts facing us, for added viewing pleasure. Here's some subwoofer PORN!
The wires are neatly arranged, and the subwoofer enclosure is ready to go into the boot.
The 7200MKII is RARING to go!
The disco dandiya colours of the 7200MKII, brought to you by Navratri King, Arpan Divanjee.
that's about it on the pics front....... The pictures of the enclosure in the boot and more yummy pictures of the head unit will be taken tomorrow in daylight as the install went on till 6 today and then we had some tuning to do.
Now for the report!
The system has a totally new outlook to it. The Eclipse CD7200MKII with its million configurability options and a lot of sound tweaking features is difficult to use at first, but today, while leaving the car, I was quite sure I will be able to operate the 7200 as well as my Alpine 9887. The menus are confusing and the display sucks totally

but it does what it's supposed to do with Elan. And that is, play the host to the other high end equipment and make sure the rest of the members of the setup receive good care. The bluetooth function is nifty but I am currently using a non-bluetooth phone. Hence I tried with Arpan's phone, and then my Dad's phone. Works well.
The USB feature is also fast and it reads files very very fast, even after starting the car. MP3 cds are read fine too. And they sound good, but the Eclipse 7200 is a 'complainer.'
It will find the smallest of faults in the poorly compressed file that MP3 is, and bring it to the fore. Hence pushing you to ditch the format altogether and play some original stuff!
Well, we played Focal, Chesky and Audiophile Recordings disc from Sheffield and it sounded quite orgasmic. Ajay did the TA and some settings on the amp for the gains (which incidentally is on the ZERO position for the Genesis, speaks volumes about the amount of power it makes for the 2 subwoofers!) and we were good to go!
Smooth, nicely detailed and clean sounding is my initial report.
The reason why I haven't done some extended listening is due to the fact that I had passengers in the car today, so didn't pay much attention. But yes, it's MILES ahead of the previous setup! The imaging is absolutely spot-on and time alignment in this head unit is SO accurate, that, while I was tuning the system after reaching home, I could feel like someone is taking a broom and moving the sound around, even with the slightest tweak of the knob. Brilliant. No words!
The highlight for all of us are the Luccent Subs, and the beautiful, subtle punch and the control of the Genesis Amp over them make them the best part of the system. The way they seamlessly blend with the entire system is quite unbelievable, considering there are 2 of them and they can easily overpower the front stage. But they don't get boomy (bah, not even close to it) and they behave like silent spectators until one turns them up. Then, they act as seat massagers.
That's it. Done. Sounds awesome. Meets my expectations.(understatement, it far exceeds them)
LOVE IT. Period.
Thanks to
Ajay Kamath (genius!)
Shafeeq (man-friday, skillful man!)
Arpandiv (chor, cum company for the evening)
Zucchero, for the unending support.
Abhinav, Nishant, Bhagwan..
and the rest of the names I haven't mentioned, since it would be difficult to mention the names of all the people who have supported me and been of great help through this journey. Sob, sob, I am getting emotional.
More pics tomorrow.
Review in a few days to come!
