I found this device to connect PocketPC or iPOD to my stereo
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Wymcp0q...900&I=158XA300

But at $100, Add a few more thousands i can buy a new HU with front Aux-In or the worst, I keep buring my Podcasts on CD and play them in my current HU.

Is there a cheap and better solution?

When I first installed ICE in my Palio, I wanted to replace my 2 channel amp with Somy 4 channel AMP. But the installer mentioned that i cannot power my 5" speakers with AMP as the speakers will damage.

Can I use a JBL Bass tube or Blaupunkt Bass box for the Bass? Both sell at around Rs. 6000?
Your 222 will just about power the woofer. Yes it will give you bass, though you will not be able to really exploit the capacity of any subwoofer with that amp. Remember, for the sub section, more is always better.

You cannot damage your 5" speakers with an amp, if set correctly and played at the right volume. In fact it is easier to damage your speakers with the HU than with a good amplifier.

You can use either for the bass yes. But try not to power them with a 222. Please do stretch to a better amp.

Kb, get the 9835 if you have a budget for the 9855. Seems like a safer buy in the face of so many problems with the 9851, 53, 55 models, although touchwood, my 9855 is quite behaving itself.

Besides, I hate the damn glide thing man. It was better with just buttons cos I could change settings without having to look at the display constantly, just based on knowing how many clicks it takes to get where I want. But then, you have the remote control, which I am somehow greatly averse to using.

I confess I "stole" what my probably be the last 9835 on the market. I had help though! he he he.

Not all 9855s seem to have trouble and the ones sold in with the R suffix seem to be less problematic dont know why. Maybe they were built at a different location using different OEMs. However if you are still anxious look at the 9856 or 57.

Are the front speakers you mentioned components or coaxials?

Will my Sony 222 suffice for the woofer?

1. you can use the BUS Audio IN for your pocket PC. you might need the adapter sony mentions so that the HU knows there is an auxilary device attached. I would try it without the adapter and see if the HU recognises the auxillary device. just use a sutiable cable.

2. the JBL tube will need more than the 222 can provide for decent control. I sugget using the 222 for the rear speakers and the Pio 6100 for the front and bass tube. BTW see if you can afford the bass box instead of the tube. Given your choice of music it might be more sutiable.

3. 4K for coax and 6K for components.

Well, yesterday i visited Cartronics in Hyd. They are the distributors for JBL and Sony. They had a box like console for Sony Aux in. The box has a drawer to put the ipod/mp3 player in it and the cable to connect to headphone jacke of the player. Another cable run from the box to the Bus-in of the HU. Sorry, forgot the model no. of this. Will try to get it.

This did not work with my HU. I think my HU also requires the adapter.

Re: Santro xing 2004 audio system help

Thanks All for your responses. As here in US it was a long week-end so I was not able to catch you up guys.

Well, Sam firstly thanks a ton for your tech spec which I was actually looking for that in Santro I need a pair of 4" speakers for the front and for rear the max size is 5.25" without any cutting involved.

rsjuarr, your response is also quiet helpful to me and to all of you guys, I've enquired and you all are correct that BOSE don't sell any after market car audio but they have a lot of factory fitted stuff for a couple of car manufacturers.

So guys here is what I've decided and please let me know if this will produce good quality audio (SQ and NOT SPL according to rsjuarr, lol) for my santro xing.

1. Sony CD/MP3 Player Head Unit (CDXGT200) - will cost around $135
52 watts x 4 peak power
Plays CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/WMA and ATRAC3plus
2 pre-amp outputs
Front-panel auxiliary in (This may help me if I want to plug in an IPOD, but I can use an FM transmitter too for my IPOD)
Remote control
Detachable faceplate

or

Pioneer CD player with MP3/WMA playback (DEH-P3800MP) - will cost around $130
50 watts x 4 peak power
MP3/WMA playback
Satellite radio-ready
iPod adapter-ready
Remote control
Detachable faceplate

2. Pioneer 5.25" 2-Way Speaker (TSG1341R) - will cost aroung $50
130W max power
60Hz – 22kHz frequency
Composite cone woofer
1 3/16" dome tweeter
Conex damper
Shallow-depth basket

or

Sony 5-1/4" 3-Way 200W Car Speakers (XS-V1340H) - will cost around $50
H.O.P. woofer
rubber surround
1-3/16" Nano-Fine (a hybrid silica-polyamide compound) balanced-dome midrange
13/32" PEI dome tweeter
frequency response 40-30,000 Hz
power range 2-50 watts RMS
peak power handling 200 watts

3. Power Acoustik 4" 2-Way Full-Range Car Speakers with Dome Tweeters (XP2K-42) - will cost around $70
or Pioneer Car TS (G1041R) 100 Watt 2-Way 4 Inch Speaker ( TSG1041R ) - will cost around $60
or Alpine Type-S Series 4" Coaxial 2-Way Speakers (SPS10C2) - will cost around $75 (may be I'll prefer this)
or Sony Xplod 4" Mobile Speaker (XSW4021) - will cost around $70

4. Pioneer 4-Channel Amplifier (GM6200F) - will cost around $200
60 watts x 4 at 4 ohms
4-channel crossovers
Speaker level inputs (I don't know really what this means)

5. Pioneer 12" Subwoofer (TSW301R) - will cost around $80
800 watts peak power
Polypropylene cone
or Sony 12" Xplod Subwoofer (XSL123P5B) - will cost around $100
1300 watts peak power
Polypropylene cone
4-layer voice coil

I'll get the box built in India as suggested by rsjuarr in less than Rs 1000

So guys and gurus what do you say. Well one more thing, is it a good idea to carry amplifier and subwoofer in terms of price and availability in India?

Any help and suggession is highly appreciated.

Sam will let you know if I face any difficulty.

Tx in advance.

Delu

get a Sony or Pio HU, of the spekers you have mentioned the Alpine SPS might be the best bet (i'd suggest getting Alpine SPS for front and rear) and get a better sub maybe even a bazooka if you like tubes.

BTW my recomendation on the Alpine SPS is based on my experience with the Alpine SPR series.

Reduce some treble from the head unit it will help a lot. The matching of tweeter with the cone is not a matter of sound level of the amp.
