Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

after spending many hours on TBHP ICE threads and auditioning two cars, which belong to my colleagues, with similar set ups; I am leaning toawrds:

Front Components - JBL GTO-608c
Rear Coax - JBL 696
(OR I can retain my current rear coaxials which are Pioneer TS-A6992S and invest the saved money on something else, may be a basic Sub)
Amp - JBL A644
Wiring+Install - ????????????

could someone post the approx. price for Mumbai/Thane?

JBL GTO-608c - 6000/-
JBL 696 - 5000/-
GT-644 - 8500/-

Pioneer TS-A6992S is good but not as good as the JBLs to my ears.
A basic sub would need a basic amp and you are looking at 8-10K at the very least for an Amp+Sub+Wiring Combo.

Basic wiring and install is free if you pruchase all the above fromt the same shop.

A Good Scosche wiring kit would cost you 5000.

I am looking for a two din DVD player for my new swift.. My budget is 15-17 k (Onlu HU).. I have shortlisted JVC KW-AVX646 (price quoted Rs 16500) and pioneer 2350 (price quoted Rs 16500). Can you all pls let me know which one amongst the above two is the best in terms of features and apprearance.

2-DIN AV Receiver KW-AVX646 | AV Receiver | Car Audio | JVC India

For the selected amp a basic scosche wiring kit would be sufficient. Around Rs.2700 /- .You'll have to buy an additional RCA for 300 bucks.
Install is generally complimentary from the shop you buy your stuff.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Just wanted to check if you would like your DVD 2 Din player to be loaded with bluetooth etc,If the answer is Yes it has to be the JVC which comes with the bluetooth syncup and a whole host of features. Can you please let us know the current car you plan to ICE? I guess the best configuration can vary based on the car and the budget. For eg: If there is a provision to install 4 6.5" in your doors, it would be a great idea to install components on all the four doors and have a good sub in the boot which will give you a great sound feel.

Both are the same features wise, but i would suggest pioneer over JVC.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Mates,

I have booked the new City facelift's Corporate Edition on the 29th, and will be getting my car in mid-February. I intend to spend most of January 2012 researching and finalising a good set of sound options for my car, since it won't come with either a HU or speakers (though I am told that Honda provides complete wiring for getting both fitted).

I had initially planned to go for Caska but the rates quoted to me (including a pair of Alpine speakers + tweeters combo and reverse camera) was ~54K at the dealer's. So I dropped the idea of getting that done and have decided to go independent. A touchscreen HU is still important to me, because I need to have that BT support for calling, and MapMyIndia navigation would be a nice little addition.

I am not an audiophile but I like decent sound. I have a set of Altec Lansing MX-5021 speakers at home for the past 5 years and really love it's sound. Clarity and quality sound wins for me anyday, over loud and boomy, bassy stuff. I am mostly into vintage Hindi songs, ghazals, English rock and pop and occasional modern Hindi film songs thrown into the mix.

Did plenty of research in the past 4-5 days and I dropped the idea of getting a subwoofer fitted in my car. Not because I don't like it (I would love to have one!), but because I am apprehensive that the local guys can't get a sub fitted properly.

I am thinking of getting a 4-channel amp, 6.5" components for the front/rear connected through the amp to the HU, which will be a 2-DIN AV Receiver.

Called up my local accessory guy and he recommended this, as per local availability in my state (I live in C.G.) -

HU:- Pioneer (either AVH-P4390 or P3350BT), or JVC KW-AVX846.

Front - MTX Thunder Axe

Rear - Rockford Fosgate Punch PPS8-8

Amp - either Pioneer GM6400F or JBL (forgot the model name)

I asked him for Polk Audio or Focal and he said it will be difficult to get it at the local sources inside the state. The best he can source (stretching his contacts) will be Infinity or Boston Accoustics, but Rockford Fosgate, MTX and JBL are available easily.

Without subwoofers installed, what are my best options for some decent, quality sound? Will components installed in both front/rear door pads give good enough sound so that a subwoofer isn't missed? Or do I go the conventional route of components at front and 6x9s at rear, minus a subwoofer? Will the sound be good enough?

Damping might be difficult as well because the damping material isn't readily available (and I suspect my local guy doesn't know much about damping).

I will be driving my car most of the time, with my family occasionally travelling with me. Volume levels will be medium/low, so I want some good quality speakers.

Thanks, and Happy New Year in advance.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

I am doing ICE for my Accent Viva.
I already have Kenwood 7049 HU. Kenwood - KDC-U7049BTL

Yesterday i visited a dealer in Hyd to install good component speakers. I checked JBL GTO609 and Rockford Punch series components. I was not impressed. I asked for Morel Maximo. He is getting them by wednesday.

I am also getting front doors & boot dampened with Dynamat Extreme. It is going to cost Rs.7000/- total.

For the time being will my HU be sufficient to drive Morels? The HU is rated as 50w x 4 peak and the Morels are rated @ 80W (I guess RMS). Please suggest an amp i can pick up for the Morels in the near future. Budget is 6000. I am thinking to get 4 Ch. amp so that i can bridge two channels for the Sub in the future.

My choice of listening are Podcasts, old hindi music and Jazz.

Planning to use OEM speakers in the rear. I didn't have good experience with the MDF panel in my Palio.

^^ IMO Without the amp you won't be doing any justice to the components.
Get the JBL GT-X646 , would perfectly fit the bill.
You'll have to shell out extra for the wiring.

Amplifier seems to be great but exceeds my budget by few Ks. Any more options? JBL site shows the price as 9K for X646. What is the street price?

Hi mate,

Between the easily available options, I would urge that you listen to Rockford Punch series. I found them to be very neutral, less "brighter" than the JBL or Infinity component systems. I haven't heard MTX, so can't really comment on them.

Hope that helps.

If you did could you share the details of the expenses & from where you got it done in Mumbai?

I have just got my head unit now (8016BT - Kenwood), now have to go through the whole process of selecting front components & amp & which are the good places in Mumbai to get it done for my new Swift

It's most of the time just going to be two passengers so was thinking of only front components for the time being, but had doubts about powering it only through the HU (confusion courtesy - Team Bhp ) , so was thinking should i then go in for an amp also

Have you decided on the equipment?
