Being a frequent traveller, I can tell you based on 6 years of travelling to US and Europe, I can tell you that I have never once been stopped at red channel, or paid a dime in duty. So you should be fine. However I would not buy stuff from www.crutchfield.com as its overpriced. Try ebay, or search for other better and cheaper options!

Hi Aseem,

You've been lucky. Not everyone is that lucky. I wouldnt go to the extent of saying that Indian customs is a breeze. Maybe our friend will get lucky, maybe he wont.

The Mumbai customs ae quite reasonable. As long as you are not blatantly flouitng their laws they will cooperate.

Crutchfield is expensive but offers fantastic service. I have had that experience and am willing to pay for the service.

U have to be reasonable. One Hu or One amp or a pair of speakers. But all 3 will get you noticed.

Also today with local prices matching what you'd pay abroad it might not be worth it unless you are lookig fo something that is not available here like MB Quart, Eclipse, etc...

I'll give you one example the Infinity 5000cs available here for 8500 less 10% dealer discount. so say 7700. for the 5010cs which is a close cousin the cheapest price i see is $140. Crutchfiled sells them for $180. And for rs. 7700-8000 I get them installed! not worth it for me.

Navin agreed! The units that are imported in bulk and are common here, have roughly the same price, and in some cases less too. However if you require something thats not readily available here, buying from US would be your best bet.

I talked to my cousin in USA on thrusday. They were coming to india on sunday so it was bit late for them to bring these for me.I told him to enquire about prices of stuff i wanted. He went to a big store in Wash'ton and told me the prices and these were atleast 50-75% more than crutchfield.Like Alpine HU were available for 250$.[crutchfield price 199$].Same was the case for amplifier.Though few other website quote 20-30% less price than crutchfield, they aren't thet reliable[acc to navin]

I agree but 5012 price here is 12000[i hope i am not wrong].Few days back i taked to Balmeet singh's man in Punjab.[Parneet Paul].

I still can buy speakers from him and have HU and amplifier get from USA which r too costly in India.Shops here r flooded with Alpine[not original] amplifiers and original Alpine HU range starts from 18000 rs.

Are u sure Sam that Infinty ref. 5012i coaxial spk r available in India with u guys? If yes then i will buy from ur guys.
And what about Infinity ref. 5010cs components spk in India?

I saw a 4 channel alpine amp for 3700 [i think it was F240,though not sure]and one 2 channel alpine for 2500 bucks. So they have to be fake.Original one costs 200$.

There r some other website which offers kappa series at prices equal to ref series.Do u think i shud take a risk?

Last question is difficult one and u guys have always said that its individual's own taste and choice but i still want to ask whether my system will be better than most of systems usually installed in India like pioneer, sony, blaupunkt, kenwood, jvc or even hertz and JBL ????[sorry sam and gunbir].

Afterall the main reason i want to get it from USA is the QUALITY and then bit of PRICE REDUCTION ADVANTAGE.

Thanx in advance...
