Re: FlightRadar24 - Live Flight Tracker. My experience as a host

Just got my raspberry pi with FR24 tracking setup up and running and after some initial struggles, it caught its first flight a couple of hours ago today. What a rewarding feeling!

Thanks a lot to this thread and all the contributions, looks like I have a new hobby!
Right now the antenna is indoors [close to a window] but for sure I need to re-position it. I am leaving it running in for now to ensure everything stays up and running before making some permanent mounting setup. I was expecting it to take a few days/weeks, but FR24 account almost intently got upgraded to Business class!!

Re: FlightRadar24 - Live Flight Tracker. My experience as a host

If anyone is/can track flights in BLR:

We often see an aircraft doing 2-3 circles over the city at about 9.30-9.45 pm. We are in the southern part of the city.

Any idea what flight would this be ? Or is it a go-around procedure initiated during busy times before the flight lands ?

I've noticed it at times, but don't remember the time. It was from HAL airport though and must be a test flight. I've noticed very rarely a commercial flight doing loops from Hosur aerodrome which again must be test flights.

Seems to be the pilot training flights conducted by the Flight training schools.

This is part of Indigo and AI pilots getting trained on A320 style aircrafts. This mostly happens around 9-11 PM IST and has a regular pattern. I have noticed the same around HSR and Harlur, guessing you saw the same.

It is a weekly flight that comes in on Wednesdays and flies out the same afternoon to some place in Europe (forgot the city).

Oh yes yes, aware of that. It typically flies out to Cologne or Leipzig. Was just remarking on the rare 747-8F type, and not the fact that it is unknown to fly into KIAL.

Re: FlightRadar24 - Live Flight Tracker. My experience as a host

This I an addictive hobby that encourages you to keep making your set up better.i moved from an internal rubber duck antenna to a 1090 tuned one with proper cabling. I 0icked up a couple of antennas and cables in one of my trips abroad and despite the price, I don't regret it one bit. The coverage, range and number of planes is now far superior
