Maximum speed limits for school buses necessarily should be lower than for general traffic.

In the UK all school buses must have seat belts on every seat.

Tiny passengers may be crossing in front of the front bumper and the rear bumper or near the wheels.
These passengers are frequently too young to understand the dangers of crossing the street.
Also tiny passengers may be hard to see inside the bus.

So the school bus should have extra mirror systems/video cameras for the driver to ensure the safety of these tiny tots.

Legal safeguards in some developed countries

In the USA, the law states that a stopped school bus is as good as a red traffic signal. Traffic in both directions must stop until the school bus switches off its amber strobe lights (red strobe lights in Canada).

According to US UVC (Universal Vehicle Code) §11-705

Any vehicle approaching or overtaking from either direction
any yellow school bus which has stopped on the highway
shall stop before reaching such school bus
if the school bus is flashing red lights.

The vehicles shall not proceed until the school bus resumes motion
or the flashing red lights are switched off!

In the states of Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Virginia, traffic approaching a stopped school bus from any direction must stop, even from the left or right. Traffic in some places must stop for a school bus loading or unloading even if the red lights do not flash.

In New Zealand, a motor vehicle meeting or overtaking a stopped school bus loading or unloading school children must reduce its speed to below 20 km/h.

They should have a low step in height. I have seen many kids who struggle to go up the first step carry heavy school bags and lunch boxes. ALso when they step down from the last step to the ground the are forced to jump and many fall down. Not to mention the pushing and shoving.

Hi All, spotted a few new BMTC buses from TATA (after a long time), ie., the "Parisara Vahini 2009" (the regular white-and-blue series) today. They sounded more sedate than the earlier Tata engines (not sure of the specification). The good thing is that they sport air suspension now.

TATA had launched airbuses longtime ago,but it didnot click and was not comfortable when compared with Ashokleyland. Durgamba had launched it Bangalore to Mangalore and later on replaced them with Ashok leylands Airbuses.

Scania enters Indian market

Scania has signed an agreement with L&T.
Scania and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) have reached an understanding to distribute trucks on the Indian market. Scania enters the market by targeting the construction segments, where there is a strongly increasing demand for robust western European heavy trucks with a high technical content.

L&T is the leading supplier of construction equipment in India. Representing Komatsu products among others, the company has a strong sales and service network for construction equipment.

“By adding Scania’s multi-wheeler construction trucks to its product portfolio, L&T can offer its mining and construction customers a full range of construction equipment,” said Scania’s President and CEO Leif Östling when he and L&T Chairman and Managing Director A.M. Naik met in Mumbai.

“In a longer perspective India will become a significant market also for Scania, in pace with the steadily growing economy, the development of the export industry and continued expansion of the motorway and logistics infrastructures. We are now taking an important step into the market and we look forward to growing and extending our business together with L&T,” says Leif Östling.

Question 1: Why do you call it a bug -- That's the de facto term for Volkswagen Beetle.

Maybe you meant: the gateway or listening post vehicle.
In that case, the term bug applies to
the miniature covert listening transducer, used by intelligence agencies: ATS, RAW, police... -- the actual miniature RF transmitter, usually from the size of a Crocin pill to the size of a pack of cigarettes,
not to the gateway relay or listening post vehicle.

Question 2: What is "military cocr"? A spelling mistake, or something we don't know about? Please educate us.

2nd vehicle -is it a nissan?here ,I can see 2 no.s of the same.still in service!will take a snap!

There are quite a few new CVs being tested out these days around Pune highways.
Apart from the now-common(ly spotted) Mahindra-Navistar truck, there is also another 6x4 truck, with a tank mounted on it which is undergoing testing. The cab design is quite modern, and sports MH-14/TC plates, so I guess its a Tata.
Then there is another white 6x4 tractor pulling a test trailer (no, its not the Tata's world Truck), with blue(ish) decals on the doors, which I had brief glimpses of a couple of times, but never managed a complete look. Cab looks modern, but not really cutting edge.

Lastly, there is also a compact but heavily disguised small truck.(407 class) It looks like one of those Japanese compact trucks.
Has anybody else here spotted the above and can give more details on those ?
The CV segment would see a lot of action by the year end, I guess.
