Not sure if it really was an off-link.
It could be an off link as it is a WDG pulling a passenger rake and not a WDM or WDP

Off late for weird reasons, I have WDG3A doing duties on the passenger trains. Some of these can be seen with the following trains

Marikuppam Passenger
Chamundi Expresses
Arasikere Passenger
Mysore Passenger

Not sure for what reason a good loco is coupled with passenger rake. Will try and find out from any of the pilots of these passengers.

Re: Railway Pics

That may be because, those are the only ones available at the minimum in Bangalore city loco shed! Also may be possible because most have been taken over by the 4 series.

Earlier the Sampark Kranthi Express had the ALCO WDM3A engines, same case was with Tippu, Kacheguda, Udyan, Prashanti express and Hampi Express. Now all these rakes are coupled with WDP4 only.

The UBL and KJM have the majority of the WDP4, WDP4B and WDG4 Locos. Many WDM2A are upgraded to WDM3A.

Re: Railway Pics

I watched an old TV program made by the BBC titled 'Great Railway Journeys of the World' on Youtube yesterday (courtesy IRFCA forums). There was one about the Great Indian Railway as well. This program was shot in 1980 and it was nice to see how the railways worked before I was born.

Here's the linky

It is split into 6 parts and the link is for the first part.

Hi,

I am really fond of trains right from my childhood. Its the second most preferred mode of transport for me after my car. I would love to share a few pics of my own. These were taken from Karnataka Express and Jodhpur-B'lore Express. Here you go:

Re: Railway Pics

For the railway buffs, a must read book:

"Branch Line to Eternity" By Bill Aitken

It talks about the story of Bill Aitken running all over India searching for meter gauge lines.

PS: I am not sure if I mentioned it earlier. Hence posting it "again".

He talks of the Dandeli branch line, the old state of Mysore and exhaustive network on TN and much much more.

Wow the Sakaleshpur - Subrahmanya Road Ghat uses 3 Locos for a passenger train ?

I guess these 2 coupled Locos would be permanently shuttling all the trains that pass by - to and fro across the Ghats.
