On the news that Ioniq 5 might be through CKD. I truly hope it is, there would be lot of buyers for this. All those who booked Tesla and waiting for Lord Elon to deliver on his "This year for sure" promise, might jump to this amazing car.
Yes the GST is 5% but the import duty on CBU is 100% because very few EVs cost below 40k USD. CKD and SKD have 15% and 25% respectively. I hope they do manage to get them here as either of those as it will help boost our EV sales. Although i doubt we'll get more than 100-200 units of the Ioniq even in CKD as the global demand for that car is insane! It is sold out almost everywhere and delivery times were around 6-8 months++ when I checked in April in the US.

Hyundai and Kia have insane efficiency sometimes even beating Tesla. The Kona with a 39 kWh battery gets 452 KMs in ARAI. The Ioniq 5 with a 58 kWh battery will easily get a 550+ KM range in ARAI conditions. Real-world can easily be 400 KMs.

I am very excited about what Hyundai is doing. With the South Korean Won pretty stable against the rupee, Hyundai can easily launch the base version in the 30 to 35 lakhs range. The tech on Ioniq 5 is generations ahead of cars like MG ZS EV that we have. If it comes true, I will be switching my booking of the MG ZS EV to the Ioniq 5 for sure.

Nope it won’t. The 58kWh variant will do maximum 360-380km. It is far bigger than Kona and about 20-25% less efficient. See this for more information.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hope Hyundai brings the bigger 77kwh battery option also so that this car becomes a serious contender to the xc40 recharge, but doesn't seem like it unfortunately.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 to launch in India on September 6th

Hyundai will launch the Ioniq 5 on September 6, 2022 and will likely be brought into the country via SKD (Semi Knocked Down) route.

Same here, have booked Tucson, now eager for this. Plus my state has Zero registration fees for EVs over 12% for Tucson. So hopingbfor the best price.

SKD and not CKD? How much is that going to affect the price compared to the EV6 which is CBU.

I reached out directly to Hyundai as well as their key dealerships in Bangalore. They have no clue and one dealership wanted me to consider Venue N line that is launching instead of Ioniq 5.

Can anyone share when the actual launch or booking start date based on interactions with Hyundai pls?

CBU could be 100% import tax on CIF basis depending upon various factors. Hyundai is cleverly going the SKD (i.e. 'engine' and gearbox arrive preassembled) route which is the least onerous.
